Lowlands setlist

despite (or 'cause) my absence over there i am still curious what they played... i read on 3voor12.vpro.nl j mascis joined their first song... no idea which one.

pokkeherrie 08.20.2007 07:04 AM

Hmmm, has he ever done that before? I can't remember now, even though they must've shared the same bill dozens of times.

I could ask my friends who went to Lowlands, but I doubt they've gone to watch Sonic Youth. Even if they did then they probably wouldn't recognise 90% of the songs anyway... and that's an optimistic estimate.

Silly VPRO have dozens of bands recorded and put online, but of course no Sonic Youth.

They'd have opened with Teenage Riot, so I wonder if it's actually just that they've dedicated the song to J?

pokkeherrie 08.20.2007 07:22 AM

That's possible, but they wouldn't necessarily have opened with Teenage Riot, as it wasn't a DDN show.

The review clearly says he played along with them on stage, but then again the reviewer doesn't seem to be very knowledgable about the band, so I don't know. I'm sure people returning from the festival today will be able to tell us.

setlist:
World looks red (with J mascis)
incinerate
reena
cross the breeze
do you believe in rapture
hey joni
what a waste
jams run free
pink steam
encore:

100%
shakin< hell

RR-songs sounded great and super tight
For me by far the best show of the festival

londondaydream 08.20.2007 10:51 AM

Now I really regret not going. J Mascis playing with them, how awesome is that!

RonD 08.20.2007 10:55 AM

Magic show yesterday. My last gig of Sonic Youth was at Roskilde, around 92, and this was a blast to the past in the most positive sense possible. Tears in my eyes when Thurston came on stage stating it was an honour to play here, liar :-)

Hahaha... I'm sure they did that especially for you, buzzo! :D

Anyway, nice to see they did something special for the occasion; festival sets usually aren't all that remarkable. Thanks for the setlist.

haha, i need to go to a gig desparately but dino was the only good thing in the next few days,.

unless ofcourse i should go see !!! in Utrecht???

pbradley 08.20.2007 05:25 PM

J is capable of playing on The World Looks Red? I would think all the discordance and lack of a ten minute solo would drive him off.
