Old Knit 20th anniversary show @ Town Hall- Lee Ranaldo

just to share, I got to attend this show last thursday, to benefit the Stone, which is a small 80 people capacity performance space, all the gate receipts go directly to the musicians which is why the benefit. here is the web space http://www.thestonenyc.com/

anyway on to the show- the first set closer- Lou Reed, he did Ecstasy and an incredible version of Rock Minuet with John Zorn on sax, and btw it was the first time ever playing together, zorn improvised in the high register squals. here is link to lou reeds web site, i think its a great site check it out: http://www.loureed.org/00/index.html

prior to that, Lee Ranaldo w/DJ Spooky, the only downside of this performance was that they couldnt get the projector going, DJ Spooky said it was going to be some soviet propaganda films that he picked up on his trip last year to Angola, performance itself was loops and drum beats over Lees doing noise on the guitar, including, feedback, distortion striking of the guitar head on the ground, dragging it around on the floor etc. here is dj spookys web site: http://www.myspace.com/djspooky

closing the show was Madeski Martin and somebody, because Wood couldnt make the show, i still think it was great, now they have myspace: http://www.myspace.com/medeskiscofieldmartinandwood
that was the last band, they did 3 song set, then everyone came out for a jam of Sgt Peppers. the girl who took the lead dont know who she was.

other things that i really like was the second band on the night which was a psych folk group, they were really great but were not in the program.(edit- it was Rebecca Moore, unbelievably good- http://www.myspace.com/rebeccamoore

Steve Bernstein was also there with his ensemble, what a great trumpeter... http://www.myspace.com/stevenbernsteinmusic

those were some of my fav, as far as not my cup of tea- Mike Doughty who got a pretty high billing, but i dont think is that great.

btw- as far as I could see Lee was MIA for the closer of Sgt Peppers, the guy that ran the show(Michael Dorf) even said from the stage, wheres Lee?

edit- now there is a review on NY Times http://www.nytimes.com/2007/03/03/ar...pagewanted=all
