New Electric Neil Young Record On The Way

It's called "living with war" and is being described as a "metal folk protest record" and it was recorded in three days........

ROTESTIN' IN THE FREE WORLD:

At SXSW last month, while introducing keynote speaker Neil Young, SXSW Managing Director Roland Swenson, referring to Young's indelible 1970 protest song "Ohio," said, "Neil, we need a new song." Young must have taken these words to heart, because he's just finished writing and recording—out of the blue—a new album called Life in War, according to filmmaker and Young confidant Jonathan Demme, who describes it as "a brilliant electric assault on Bush and the war in Iraq." The linchpin track, "Impeach the President," features an edited-together Bush rap set to a 100-voice chorus chanting "flip"/"flop." The album, with Young on Old Black, Rick Rosas on bass and Chad Cromwell on drums, took three days to finish. No word on when Reprise will release the album, but the Demme-directed concert film Heart of Gold arrives June 13 on DVD.

Hooray! I liked Prairie Wind, but at times I thought it sounded a little to slow or "traditional" or something. Bring out the rock!

This is so cool. Two Neil Young albums so close together! First Prairie Wind, which made me nearly break out in tears when he performed "It's A Dream" on Saturday Night Live (sure I was on shrooms, but so what? It was a beautiful song anyway), and now a new record bashing Bush! What luck! This is going to be a great year for great music. We'll be seeing the release of new Built to Spill, Mudhoney, Sonic Youth, Mission of Burma, and possibly Dinosaur Jr and Pixies if all goes well.
