Actually, you can. I've seen them live performing Quique a month ago and to be honest, it was quite an awful performance. Very disappointed.

EUGENE GOT ME HOOKED ON ROLO TOMASSI

https://youtu.be/63guoWW5Y3E

ah shit it is gooooooooooood

really satisfying the way deerhoof used to satisfy—in their latest album (the only one i’ve heard so far) i hear the joyous blend of prog and hardcore and metal and the loud/quiet/loud dynamic on a whole new fucking level.

last night listening to time will die i was thinking of the story of jimi hendrix’s “manic depression” (he wrote that song cuz someone told him he played “like a manic depressive”), and thinking no no no, this is the real manic depression

loved it

need more now. NEED MORE NOW.

:o I'm so, so, so glad you like it man, I wasn't sure what you'd think.
They rule hard, and yes, the new album is probably my favorite so far. They're one of those bands that makes you excited about music again.

WELL, I've been mentioning them on here since 2007, glad you paid attention !

haha, kiddin' (even if it's true, I just checked my posts about them), I'm glad someone else is catching up with their releases.
Well done U-genie.

ha ha ha, im sorry i must have spaced it

in 2007 i think we were still ripping and sharing yes? there was that yahoo group.... otherwise one had to go to a store, and look, and find stuff, and then figure how to split the money between all the wishes...

what can i say, access is better these days

but hey! better late than never, right?

belated belated thanks

nicfit 12.12.2018 01:57 PM

aaaah, the yahoo group! we're old, aren't we?
It feels weirdly good to be kinda "back" here for a while.
And yes, it sure is better late than never, also because their releases are pretty consistent and it's not a case of "oh, you should just listen to their debut, now they're shite..".

btw i looked for other instances of "rolo tomassi" on this board and there were none earlier except in someone's show attendance list posted 2016

maybe you posted pictures not words... e.g. like eugene's cover above

rolo tomassi - hysterics (2008)

nicfit 12.12.2018 07:00 PM

You gotta use advanced search, rolo as keyword, show posts (rather than threads) and my username. Results:

http://www.sonicyouth.com/gossip/sea...archid=1923600 (Dunno if this link works, but you can replicate the search with those directions). Not trying to prove a point, eh, just explaining how I found them out coz my first search came up empty and I was kinda puzzled (till I remembered how you have to dig into the advanced search to find stuff in here)

Did you spend some time with the other two of the big three?

(“Station to Station” and “Low”; those + “Blackstar” = my Bowie Trinity.)

I've been working through the discography over the last few weeks, intermixed with other bands (my preferred method of listening).

Low is absolutely the best; it's one of the albums that's on my 'to purchase ASAP after Christmas' list.

Haven't listened to ★ in ages (it was the first one I did), but I remember I quite enjoyed it. Most of the rest have just blurred together in a haze, there's a lot of Bowie.

Radiohead B-sides / non-album tracks

That there
That's not me
I go
Where I please
I walk through walls
I float down the Liffey
I'm not here
This isn't happening
I'm not here
I'm not here

In a little while
I'll be gone
The moment's already passed
Yeah it's gone
And I'm not here
This isn't happening
I'm not here
I'm not here
Strobe lights and blown speakers
Fireworks and hurricanes
I'm not here
I'm not here
This isn't happening
I'm not here
I'm not here

Definitely one of the top 5 most depressing Radiohead songs ever.

Also “Codex” and “Videotape” and (yep) “Let Down.”

Hmm. Let me try this:

- Climbing up the Walls
- Sail to the Moon
- Fitter Happier
- All I Need
- Exit Music
- We Suck Young Blood (terrible song, but also quite depressing)

Shit, I'm not too familiar with Radiohead anymore. I've had quite a hard time remembering them songs.

ALL HAIL THE WORLD'S GREATEST BAND

choc e-Claire 12.13.2018 02:29 PM

Ooh, a Radiohead discussion!

I don't know about you, but I see Videotape as kind of uplifting? But I'll wholeheartedly agree on Exit Music, that's one of the few songs that can get me towards tears.

The Exit Music -> Let Down -> Karma Police stretch is possibly my favourite three-song run of all time.

How to Disappear Completely (which, FWIW, was inspired by Michael Stipe - cool story) and Fitter Happier exist in a weird space where, despite being emotionally pretty low, I quite enjoy listening to them. Ironic, being a depressive bitch but taking solace in music that shouldn't help (I have used The Downward Spiral as a feel-good album).

Climbing up the Walls is a masterpiece.

Bah... those are more disturbing than depressing.
Well.. ok I’ll give you Exit Music, but the groove saves it and gives it something other than complete sadness.
All I Need is possibly up there.
Climbing up the Walls is just kickass. Again, disturbing not depressing. Same for We Suck Young Blood. And it’s not a bad song!

Anyway. There was an infographic about this about a year ago — claimed to quantify sadness based on musical composition. And it broke it down by album.

I don’t remember the results, but I’m pretty sure Codex, Let Down and Motion Picture Soundtrack were three of the most depressing according to whatever method was used.

Severian 12.13.2018 03:22 PM

Also Radiohead got into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, which makes sense in some ways but also seems quite wrong.

Hey, the Cure got in too.

I think they used a combination of lyrical sentiment and 'valence', something Spotify does to detect the 'mood' of a song. 15 Step was the happiest and True Love Waits was the saddest overall, with We Suck Young Blood the saddest based on valence and High and Dry based on lyrics.

Fuck that. High and Dry has a driving melody and is chantable enough to invent Coldplay. Yeah, though, that sounds familiar.

Listen to “Codex.” Shit makes me want to jump off a building

To listen to 'Codex', I have to listen to The King of Limbs, and is that a sacrifice I'm willing to make?

Anyway, back to the point of the thread:

Dr. Eugene Felikson 12.13.2018 08:38 PM

I actually think King of Limbs is one of their best albums

Same goes for Hail to the Thief. They're both very weird

Also the Bends, In Rainbows, and Kid A is my fav

but I have an Amnesiac tattoo

God I love Radiohead though

King of Limbs: In the Basement (live) will wake you up to the krautrock pleasures of proper album.

It’s not their best... because Hail to the Thief is their best

In some ways Hail to the Thief is my favourite Radiohead album, even though I know there's so many reasons not to pick it.

That said, my favourite at a given moment is always going to be something from OKC to HTTT, probably whichever one I listened to last.

every other week or so i gotta go to “town” and resupply, do appointments, drop offs/pickups, see people, that sort of thing. 1h highway then multiple stops then 1h highway

Do you typically not see people between visits to town? How close is your closet neighbor?
