sonic youth montreux jazz fest. 2000

seeing the release of a lot of dvd montreux jazz shows (different artists as lou reed, van morrison, alice cooper, deep purple, james brown, mike olfield, johnny casy, miles davis, bonnie raitt, marvin gaye...), why not a release of the sonic youth show in 2000?

Teenage Riot
White Kross
Free City Rhymes
Nevermind
Side2Side
Kool Thing
Hoarfrost
Small Flowers Crack Concrete
Bull in the Heather
Schizophrenia
NYC Ghosts & Flowers
--
Lightnin'
Brother James

the burning spear was not played as usual on that tour, but... why not?

I got it onVCD its a great show

sergisonic 01.28.2007 05:38 AM

well, it seems that who is mainly really interested in releasing official dvd shows from the festival it's the organization. they are releasing every great and "strange" show for a jazz fest (joe cocker? lou reed? ...). i mean, i suppose that they are really interested in the sonic youth show... what would happen if they ask the band?

I dunno if the Montreaux Jazz Fest filmed every show.
But the SY concert chronology tells that exist a webcast.
I think the mpeg that exist of that show was sourced from the webcast.
Someone knows if that webcast was multicam or 1 camera proshot?
(since I don't have that mpeg,I don't know)
because if was 1 camera shot that would be the reason why they don't wanna release the show.

Why would Sonic Youth play at a Jazz Festival. Don't get me wrong i know all the noise and stuff is 'free-improvised' etc. at times. But, Jazz?. wah?

mmm... why not?
no fun fest...
atp fest...
sonar fest...
ystad fest...

eclecticism is part of sonic youth life... :)

the webcast is a really nice multicam pro shot, but due to super-compression audio and video are barely decent...anyway, regarding the "jazz" thing, montreux jazz is hardly a jazz festival when it comes to some "special" guests... even Mono and Blonde Redead played there, just to name a couple from the top of my head.
