Sonic Youth rocked Shanghai

it was an amazing show! i can't recite the setlist to you but i can tell you some of the songs off the top of my head:

Older gems:
100%
Kool Thing
Teenage Riot
Schyzofrenia (i think that's right)
Skip-Tracer
Shaking Hell
(and another old one, it's a bit of a blur right now)

Rather Ripped:
Incinerate
Do You Believe In Rapture
Turquoise Boy
Jams Run Free
Reena
Rats
Pink Steam
(probably two or three more)

other random moments were when they played noise/chords over a famous chinese song being played through the PA. (really cool moment)

RanaldoNecro 04.24.2007 08:20 PM

Well, there must have been plenty of significance attached to the show

We posted a write-up about the Shanghai gig — it was awesome — including dozens of photos and a couple videos. There is also a link to the setlist. Check it all out here:

Probably the fact that they didn't play "Skip Tracer" here in Mexico last February was due to Thurston having problems not with the song itself but with that particular guitar he plays it with.

It's just hard to believe that he actually forgot how to play it.

I mean, They played it before (The live recording of their Berlin show at Postbahnoff on December 16 2006 comes to mind at this very moment) and it was sweet.

whorefrost: last febraury here in mexico city, thurston forgot how to play it and instead the band played mote.

i think he also had problems with the guitar (maybe it wasn't tuned right for the song?) but he forgot alright, at one point, he went up to lee for him to show what he played and see if he could remember.

i'm actually very glad they played mote instead.

i was right in front of thurston's guitar rack, they talked a lot of what they were going to do. again, maybe the guitar wasn't tuned properly and thurston tried to play the song on that other tuning but couldn't do it.
