ten honorable (er, "honourable") mentions
three of which should definitely have placed higher 57) Nirvana - Unplugged in New York (57? Say what? This is a joke!) 56) Jesus Lizard - Goat (56? Surely you didn't come of age in the '90s!) 53) Fugazi - Repeater (This most likely deserves better than 53rd place.) shame on you all haha |
Yeah, especially Repeater, it should be in the top 30.
I'm also surprised by EJSTANS rank. Everybody on the board (except me and few wise people) love this album. |

I was thinking this t'other day actually. There's a lot of people on this board for whom the idea of '90s records' is a nostalgic one (that is, one they weren't really there for). I only just qualify for remembering the 90s in my late teens, but I was 11 or 12 when Kurt died. I didn't really start listening to stuff that I can still bear until I was 17 or so ('99) so I'm in the worst position of faintly remembering some stuff but not really being there with a developed set of faculties. How many people here really did come of age in the '90s? Few, I should imagine. |

I was 21 in 2000, so probably qualify. |

Well, I lost my man-hymen last century, so I do too, but you know what I mean. |

Nevermind. |
Yes, as is the tradition of coming of age. When a man and a woman love each other very much, the woman decides to take a razor and give them half a jew-cock.
|
I've never heard about this tradition. Maybe I'm still a virgin.
Back to the topic : I'm pleased to see that Nevermind is not in the top 20. even though 24 is too high for this album IMO. |
my prediction: 1) spiderland 2) loveless
which i think are truly the greatest albums of the 90's, so you won't see me complaining. |
now we continue

4) Shellac - At Action Park
3) Slint - Spiderland and the final 2 2) Sonic Youth - Washing Machine and finally 1) My Bloody Valentine - Loveless |
No Unwound ?
|
Loveless ? Again ?
I'm so disappointed.... |
this is idiotic.
what kind of Rolling Stone reporter joke is this? you don't know shit about music all is american rock and sounds the same!!! i thought you said BEST ALBUMS FROM THE 90'S not BEST AMERICAN SCHOOL TEEN ALBUMS. where is Björk? Where is Sigur Ros? AND WHY WHY is WASHING MACHINE #2??? fuck this. |
I suppose it's cause we 're on the Sonic youth board.
I'm surprised that Sebadoh and Unwound are missing. |
the absence of certain albums can be blamed on the inability to come to a consensus of a fave album, or they were rated too low on lists, hence why no yo la tengo (3 albums voted for), unwound (4 albums) fushitsusha (4 albums) and so on
|
Quote:
Stop whining, there're NAS, DJ Shadow, Whu Tang Clan, Tom Waits... |
washing machine is better than a thousand leaves in muthafuckin' rand
mcnally, where hamburgers eat people. which is to say...WELL IT ISN'T! (fred schneider voice) |

Next time I' ll consult you before choosing my list, panto (concerning Unwound). |

Wu-Tang Clan ain't nothing to fuck with. It's a solid list, no surprises, but I couldn't argue much with that, given what I've heard. |
here are the top vote getters in my system
322 - My Bloody Valentine - Loveless : 23,9,19,20,25,10,24,23,21,6,21,22,1,24,25,24,25 277 - Sonic Youth - Washing Machine : 19,12,17,25,21,23,24,24,17,16,23,6,25,25 232 - Slint - Spiderland : 25,25,23,17,22,25,25,12,25,24,9 205 - Shellac - At Action Park : 4,24,19,14,18,17,16,1,19,6,15,22,22,8 198 - Sonic Youth - A Thousand Leaves : 21,20,5,1,11,25,23,18,25,6,7,24,12 188 - Radiohead - OK Computer : 21,8,15,24,1,25,24,24,25,21 181 - Sonic Youth - Goo : 20,24,22,14,16,22,23,5,21,14 155 - Boredoms - Super æ : 25,14,16,10,25,19,22,24 134 - Nirvana - In Utero : 11,15,16,6,24,18,4,22,18 132 - Sonic Youth - Dirty : 25,16,9,13,10,18,8,18,15 all those underlined were first place votes, Slint had the most first place votes by far, however only 11 people put them on their list, where as 14 for WM and 17 for Loveless and it was far and away the winner however if you avg them out you'd get some thing like this Spiderland - 21.09 Washing Machine - 19.78 Loveless - 18.94 based on that most people put them higher on their lists usually, but means little |
How many voters do you have ?
