Lee Ranaldo collaboration - the gift of tongues

Ive seen this in a charity shop, and assuming nobody else is going to buy it (A fairly safe assumption), i was just wondering what its like? Worth getting for £6?

hmmm, i dunno... i think it's one of my least favourite lee ranaldo albums (w/ zeena parkins, william hooker). for a completist i'd say maybe yes, but definitely not essential in my opinion. if you can find them i'd buy these first:

east jesus, text of light (any), drift DVD, amarillo ramp, new life after fire, envisioning, scriptures of the golden infinity... i better stop here. there's a lot more though.

What about that Text of light 3cd thing? It looks tremendous but it is pretty dear. Bear in mind im sure i'll never find many of those other albums in a record shop (that i know of), and id rather get them in a record shop than download - im the new generation of self righteous indie purist you understand. but thanks for yr advice.

oh, i really love the text of light 3cd set... but yes, it's not cheap.

you could get the single cd on starlight furniture instead though, that's a lot cheaper but i like it somewhat less than the 3cd set... i also really liked the text of light tour cd-r that they sold last year at their gigs. yod.com had some copies for sale as well, but their mailorder database has been offline for months now.

i think i only started buying lots of sonic solo albums about 5 years ago and the vast majority of it has been online. what i've bought from record stores is probably no more than 10-15 in all those years. i imagine you'd have more chance in london than where i live though.

I'd say fucking grab it man, if you don't like the wild stuff then you won't like this but this is the power gnarl, a peak into the plasma furnace...Hooker is such a powerful drummer...I bought my copy of the 3xCD ToL from some guy who had a big record table at the Red Rose in Finsbury for 20 quid...its definitely worth it, think of the stupid shit you spend a 20 on. Shit here in NYC you spend that on a couple of drinks with a date.

I wish I could remember why I didn't go to that first Tol show at Tonic. maybe it was just advertised as Tol without anyone's names associated with it? I saw the gig at the Knitting Factory that summer which was probably my favorite of all the ToL shows I've been able to see - maybe because there was plenty of seating - the place was half full - and for some tragic reason my D3 didn't record.
