That's the dumbest thing I've ever read.

I have no desire to share the music I make with the bunch here. Nor would there be any point. It would just be one more thing for people to be jealous about and nit-pick and take issue with. Why do you think people disclaim their offerings as "shameless self promotion?" Because it is exactly that. It it works for them, then great. To me, it just seems needy. Collect your efforts and put them onto board compilations. That's really the only way not to look like a jackass. If you do have a band that plays gigs, then you have a right to post about it. If you don't, then don't be a cheese. Just some advice.

Shameless self-promotion may not be cool. But I don't think that's why people want to share their music and mention it in posts. I assume they want us to talk about their stuff in the same way we do more professional artists. Personally, I would want as much feedback as possible from people who share similiar tastes. At an early stage, comments like "Write better words" or "Get a new drummer" or "You're hopeless" or "You have promise" can be invaluable. Not always, but can be.

does noone else think that this is the single greatest thing ever said on this board and maybe even the whole of the internet?

I've given up on the internet as a place to share constructive thoughts. I care little for other's opinions on music (it's always a personal thing) and other than the random comment in a music thread for a band I really like, I can't be bothered.

the strange thing is, talking about music is my favorite conversation to have....I just don't do it on the net (very much).

I only come to "band forums" because I feel that in general I will have more in common with the people that post on them.

hell, I think that I've only looked at the actual "sonic gossip" forum twice since registering.

after typing this, I realize how stupid talking about not talking about something seems....disregard everything I just wrote. :)

Hey! Choose one of these smilies and then click on it to hear what it says.

I went with the middle one.

although it doesn't really convey the same EMOtion that I was going for, the "get fucked" was a nice touch.
