tracks from Rocky's Beauty N The Beast

don't really like Riot Rave, appreciate the effort though. the video is cool.

Unicorn sounds good, but it's just a Tame Impala song slowed down.

Ross is getting mediocre reviews. :( his album is awesome in my opinion.

where is Sev, by the way?

noisereductions 03.04.2014 07:45 PM

those early tracks were unreal.

Looking fwd to Beauty N The Beast & LORD.

Right here, buddy.

Sorry all, I've been extremely busy with inconsequential shit like working.

Anyway, someone catch me up!

I got my hands on Oxymoron the day it was released and I fucking love it. Iconic, hard-hitting, insightful. It's looking like Q is going to be a fixture.

MASTERMIND is a little generic sounding at times, but I agree that it's a fantastic fucking record, and the track with Kanye is the best rap joint I've heard so far this year.

(I don't care about Pharrell- sounds like his album was shit anyway)

I don't bother to download "unofficial" mixtapes usually. I generally only like tapes that the artist puts out. So I had overlooked this one. But Rocky put it up on ASAPMOB.COM so I figured I'd cop it since he co-signed. Obviously I had heart a couple of tracks, but the opener is hot plus it has a chopped n screwed version to end it. And I like that "Bittersweet Symphony" sample - though I had heard Ravage use that sample for his American Gangster remix tape years ago.

Anyway, Rocky is ridiculous. Even on these early early tracks he was so on point.

oh hi!

so in my opinion.. Oxymoron is pretty good.
i love the tracks with Raekwon and Kurupt.

Mastermind is really really good. deserves more love. the Kanye track is fanatstic.
the track with Scarface and Z-Ro on the hook is my fav on the album. The Weeknd did his thing too.
yes there are a couple of generic trap-sounding tracks, but they aren't bad either.

Isaiah Rashad's album/tape/whatever is better than Oxymoron to me. i feel like he's the best newcomer in a while.

Pharrell's album is forgettable. he didn't put much effort into it.

Migos' new tape is dope. they're going to drop a mean album later this year.

MadGibbs' "Cocaine Piñata" is actually going to be the first classic this year, hands down.
i'm glad they've taken their time with this album, because it seems like it's really going to be perfect.

also have high hopes about YG's debut album. the singles are great.

true.

LORDS got pushed back, hehe.. saw it coming, there was no promotion for that album at all.

Puff Daddy is just sublime in that.

actually I heard Radiohead is working on it expected to be released by summer, and didn't FIona just drop a record a year and a half ago??

noisereductions 03.05.2014 07:11 PM

yeah Fiona takes like 6 yrs between records. :\

SuchFriendsAreDangerous 03.05.2014 07:26 PM

Much like Kelly Bundy, my brain is too full now for new music
too fast. It takes me like a year AT LEAST to absorb new records
and even then, takes like another year to disengage and move
on to another new record. I think my brain has enough space left
for 6, possibly 8 new records a year, tops! The problem is my brain
just can't let go of previous records, essentially every single note
and line from every single record I've ever listened to since I was in
2nd grade is locked in there and functional, and so after all these
years there is just precious little room left for something new.
As much as I'd like to clear space, its proving impossible. even when I try!

chocolate_ladyland 03.06.2014 07:14 AM

The current hip hop mixtape scene is so big it must be next to impossible to follow. The only scene that might be a bigger challenge is the modern dance music scene (I feel bad for RA writers).

THERE'S TOO MUCH MUSIC BEING MADE. PLEASE PEOPLE. STOP!

SuchFriendsAreDangerous 03.06.2014 02:33 PM

I know. and these dudes have almost given up on selling it! I've been trying to convince MC TREE to set up a bandcamp, dude could easily have sold several thousand downloads by now, at $7 or $8 a pop not bad.. Then again, he may have some bullshit "label" restrictions or maybe its too much bullshit on his taxes??

louder 03.06.2014 02:49 PM

is Tree working on an official debut album?

louder 03.06.2014 02:52 PM

going to pre-order Cocaine Piñata and My Krazy Life.

gotta support "real" hip-hop. ;)

That is what that Scion EP was supposed to be.. of sorts. That ninja should at the least be selling his two mix-tapes from Bandcamp. People will buy it. He will at the least bring in some money from his tapes. If you talk with him, he seems kind of bitter and jaded that after two years of critical acclaim hasn't translated into any kind of commercial success to speak of.. Fuck it. Got to get real, like E-40 said, "Slangin tapes up out the trunk of my car."

Severian 03.06.2014 03:30 PM

SuchFriends and Tree are friends now?

Also, I know his Twitter name is MC Tree, but he's marketed as "Tree." You call him MC Tree, does that mean he's MC Tree? Because I've been calling him Tree, despite the massive (ridiculous, almost) number of artists/bands with that name.
