By the way... Don't you dare fucking miss Feature Magnetic, Kool Keith's new album on MellowMusicGroup, dropping THIS FRIDAY.

Obviously Keith's still around, and I know he's still on fire —fact, last year's Time? Astonishing! was one of his best albums in ages — but he's almost completely retreated back to the underground, which is really saying something in 2016 when "the underground" barely even exists. His albums drop, get some acclaim, and fade from public memory to make room for 900th Thugger mixtape of the year.

I think we need Kool Keith, or someone like him, to step up and be present during this current era of hip-hop. He was always a watchdog for the genre, keeping his sights on the stupidest elements of rap, and never being afraid to call people out for making silly shit. Maybe that's what modern rap is missing? A mouthy motherfucker with a bullshit detector and the ability to balance a fucking ridiculous sense of humor with heavy and thrilling production.

Thanks for posting that SFAD. I'm gonna go listen to First Come First Served and get ready for the new alb.

(were you not aware that this was an album that was made exclusively for a radio station in the PC release of Grand Theft Auto V and build around samples from the console version of the game's score? I mean, Los Santos is where GTAV takes place...)

This might be the ultimate diss track for the "R&B ni**as" Wu once crusaded against. I still think "TRIUMPH" is, like, THE no-chorus rap song of all time, but this one is way the fuck up there.

That shit sounds simple/ look at this nigga rhymin to hisself
Wack as fuck, smell like shit for one buck
...
I hope your bitch is in the audience
Your wife too, that's your fanbase / plus your DJ's in the place
I'm about to boo you

Hah! There's no end to the quotables in this track.

I once read that it was aimed at Nas, oddly enough.

New Common single:

Actually love it. Think the new album is gonna be more mellow and subtle than the last one, which is a good thing when it comes to Common of course.

Rob Instigator 09.13.2016 01:55 PM

if Common gets any more mellow and subtle he will evaporate into nothingness

louder 09.13.2016 02:10 PM

LOL

His last album was pretty grimey in terms of production though and I wasn't a big fan of the sound, I like Common best when he's soulful.

Earl's "Solace" is one of the best tracks/EPs/whatever of 2015, easily. It did a better job at capturing the feeling of depression than I Don't Like Shit as a whole. A sludge rap masterpiece.

I believe you but I almost don't care. No offense. I just can't really afford to buy every album I hear is good anymore, and I'm sure this would end up on the bench after a few listens.

I'm interested in 1992 though.

But yo, did you catch that Kool Keith has a new album dropping in THREE DAYS? From what I've heard it's goddamn excellent, perhaps even better than Time? Astonishing!

I bought that album, listened for a couple days, and it went on the shelf. Haven't returned to it once since then.

Honestly, I like Kanye produced Common. I like Common on Kanye tracks. But I kinda don't like Common that much on his own.

buy what it exactly? you didn't see that i posted a full album link from youtube? download that bitch and trust me it doesn't in any way sound like a "video game sound track" indeed it just sounds like a typically good Game record with some bad ass beatz

SuchFriendsAreDangerous 09.13.2016 07:02 PM

i have had Streets of Compton on constant repeat over recent weeks so iook forward to adding Block Wars to my rotation
