oh, poor dortmund-- kagawa running in circles without any decent help, mkhitarian shooting at the moon, ramos trampling around like a man on stilts, the defense floundering before frankfurt's lightning-fast counterattacks. this is like something out of a greek tragedy or the book of job. a closeup of klopp grinding his teeth as he watches from the sidelines is all you need to see to understand.

I watched a rerun of it. The result's what counts but I did think Dortmund were a bit unlucky, at least up front. They had a load of chances but just couldn't finish. Where they weren't unlucky was at the back. It was stupid defensive errors that gave Frankfurt the win.

Either way, I don't think I've ever seen a team fall so dramatically, relative to expectation. Even Man U under Moyes were never in contention for relegation. This is a whole other level of collapse. And yet the weirdest part is that the UK press can't stop its love affair with Klopp and the radio phone-ins are still full of Arsenal fans wanting him to replace Wenger. It's bizarre; as frustrating as Arsenal might be under Wenger, they'll still most likely qualify for the CL. It's as though the press and the fans are deliberately ignoring what's actually going on at Dortmund this season.

if he goes to arsenal everyone will love him first and then every player will be mysteriously injured (form overrunning?). then everyone will figure out his system. btw pisscheck (don't know how to spell his name) injured as well now. joining.... pretty much the whole squad. immobile is hurt too apparently.

speaking of this--announcers the other day were commenting how pep doesn't like it when robben or ribery run 40 or 50 or 70 meters and then they have to run back to defend. he likes to keep runs short. and he may be an overly baroque overthinker, but he doesn't have so many injured players as klopp (well except for lahm and alaba and javi martinez and thiago alcantara and badstuber ha ha ha... hm, not funny.... )

about "unlucky upfront": they are not unlucky, they are highly inaccurate. it's been going on all season: 100s of shots, all of them towards some portion of the sky.

demonrail666 12.01.2014 10:24 AM

I dare say you're right about the unlucky thing. I've not seen much of them but they seemed to be playing with an air of desperation at the front, which obviously stems from a total lack of confidence. That'll only return with wins and only get worse as results continue to go against them. And as teams that a season ago would've faced them with a sense of fear now feel able to really have a go at them, it'll be even harder for them to break out of that cycle. This is the kind of situation, in terms of if Klopp can turn that around, that'll show just how good a manager he really is.

one thing to consider though is the competitiveness of the bundesliga when you remove bayern from the equation. these teams are all solid, which makes them all viable giant killers-- even if dortmund is no giant right now, the competition is tough no matter what team you face.

So Ronaldo, Messi and Neuer are the 3 finalist for the Ballon d'or. Great to see Neuer on there.

demonrail666 12.01.2014 02:12 PM

Seems fair to me. Ronaldo will win it but I'd love to see it go to Neuer.

SuchFriendsAreDangerous 12.01.2014 09:20 PM

These ninjaz got heart yo! Fuck Ronaldo

Balotelli in trouble again, after posting this on his instagram ...

!@#$%! 12.02.2014 10:22 AM

great picture comedy this morning!

h8kurdt 12.02.2014 01:27 PM

Whatever. From what it seems it's people going mad only over the jewish line, then I found out Balotelli's mam is jewish, so yeah, he's clearly anti-semitic. It's hardly anything to weep about.

demonrail666 12.02.2014 01:44 PM

It's not about him being racist, it's about him being an idiot. "why always me'? Cos you keep doing stupid stuff like that, mario.

I get that. You just think "Really? This seemed like a good idea when?"

SuchFriendsAreDangerous 12.02.2014 04:40 PM

Hoping Galaxy can give Lando the trophy on Sunday. While y'all may scoff at him, taking 6th mls cup and retiring on top would be a fairy tale ending regardless of folks opinions about competitiveness of MLS

From Rodgers' point of view It'd almost be better if he was racist. At least then there'd be a logic behind it, something for him to work with, but it's all just random stupidity with him. Nothing really terrible, just idiotic.

let me venture the hypothesis that this may not exactly be "stupidity" but actual "goofiness". they may look similar but it's not the same-- stupid is dense, goofy is playful. and from that playfulness his occasional spark of genius. he's not dense, he's just a big manchild-- you saw his video greeting the children for the schoolyear, yes? he should post anonymously on 4chan and nobody will notice.

demonrail666 12.02.2014 05:48 PM

Goofy is harmless. The reason what he does is stupid is because it's not harmless, it's destroying his career. But I think there's so much weird shit in his head that maybe that's what he wants.

!@#$%! 12.02.2014 06:28 PM

goofy is not harmless when it's an airplane pilot carrying passengers. goofy is not a nuclear plant operator having a foodfight. the problem with balotelli is that he can't control when to be goofy and when to be serious. it's an emotional problem, not one of intelligence. of course he's fucked up-- i think his bio parents did a number on him and then he had another set of parents to fuck him up extra.

but anyway, this is all about his public persona vs private person. back in ancient times there was this south american player who was reputed for being able to break beer bottles with his dick, an act which purportedly he demonstrated live in the brothels he frequented. but that's the thing, it was hearsay about a life behind closed doors-- the public only knew his exploits on the pitch or whatever gossip the newspaper managed to print. there were no dick picks or vines or youtube videos of this bottle-slapping dick. the problem with today's social media is that there are no more brothels left, and everyone is always everywhere in presentation mode and under scrutiny. a nightmare.

where he's stupid i think is in wanting to attract attention as if every stranger was his friend. every famous person needs a PR manager these days, no exceptions.
