King Crimson

Some of there stuff really does it for me, some of it doesn't. The song Red sounds like Don Caballero and Slint stuff, but it is so much earlier.

atsonicpark 05.13.2006 05:33 PM

I just got the power to believe.

Fucking epic.

Everyneurotic 05.13.2006 05:47 PM

last crimson i heard was a larks' tongues in aspic/starless and bible black in between period show from 1973, with the violin and shit; fucking righteous.

the only crimson album i heard that i wasn't very impressed by is in the wake of poseidon, it sounds way too much like emerson lake and palmer and genesis for my taste. (which tells you more about their influence than you think).

Daycare Nation 05.13.2006 08:02 PM

the last thing i bought was the Projeckts box set...my favorite is the 1980s crim

atari 2600 05.13.2006 08:05 PM

nice comments, everyone...

last listened to was also larks tongues in aspic

Daycare Nation 05.13.2006 08:47 PM

last Crimson-related album I heard was probably Fripp's "Let the Power Fall."

nomadicfollower 05.13.2006 08:51 PM

I haven't listen to them, as I was discouraged on the "proggresive rock" thread.

Daycare Nation 05.13.2006 09:03 PM

who discouraged you and why, my friend? Fripp is good.

nomadicfollower 05.13.2006 09:06 PM

Someone said Yes was better then them, and I don't like Yes, so I assumed they were horrible.

Daycare Nation 05.13.2006 09:17 PM

They're nothing like Yes...But stay away from the early albums. Start with the ones that have Wetton on vocals.

Daycare Nation 05.13.2006 09:18 PM

Then hear the 80's trilogy...then if you like what you heard, check out their other periods.....my advice.

nomadicfollower 05.13.2006 10:56 PM

I'll download some shit.

Everyneurotic 05.13.2006 11:00 PM

fuck no, get in the court of the crimson king, one of the best albums ever made.

Daycare Nation 05.13.2006 11:01 PM

hmm, well it seems like my opinions are getting challenged once again...my ears must be defective.

i'm not picking on you if that's what you are thinking.

i suggested in the court...over anything else because a) that's the record that got me into crimson b) it's an amazing record all around and c) i don't think the mid-period, towards the 80's albums are good places to start (mainly because some of the production sounds dated and it's more difficult to get into).

i love crimson, pretty much all i have heard so far, even the 80's stuff. i just think their first album is a better place to start IN MY OPINION.

Daycare Nation 05.13.2006 11:21 PM

I was just thinking that if this person doesn't like Yes, he probably doesn't want to hear a classic-sounding 60's album with Greg Lake on it.

Everyneurotic 05.13.2006 11:33 PM

what-fucking-ever

and by the way, greg lake was amazing in crimson. emerson lake and palmer suck because they sound like watered down crimson doing pop commercials.

EDIT:: beats me where do you hear the similarities between yes and early-crimson. they sound nothing alike

Daycare Nation 05.13.2006 11:43 PM

i'm not saying the debut isn't good--I was way into it in high school. I just don't prefer it anymore and don't own it now.

PunkerViolence 05.14.2006 06:24 AM

I fucking love king crimson.

Everything from the 60s and 70s does it completely. Larks Tounges, Islands, Poseidon, Crimson king, Starless & Bible black......fripp is genious.

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 05.14.2006 10:54 AM

Two of Bowies four good guitarists were in King Crimson. To me, that says something. (I consider Belew, Fripp, Alomar, and Ronson to be the good Bowie guitarists)
