asp's classic albums # 73: jean michel jarre - oxygene

1976 early-electronic music. Brilliant, beautiful, lush melodic soundscapes with vintage synths, a trip to the cosmos. No really interesting way to describe this album but it's definitely a masterpiece. For fans of overpowering non-cheesy ridiculously cool sounding synth music.

Anyone have any similiar reccomendations or anything in this vein? Minimal synth and so on?

I definitely want to hear some good synth explorers...

I assume you've heard early Tangerine Dream or Cluster?

"Synthetik 1" by Seeselberg would be up your alley, I think.
Also, Jürgen Karg's "Elektronische Mythen" is a good one.

So good.

I may have already recommended it Atsonic, so if so, apologies, my memory is shite, but have you heard the Thierry Muller 'Rare And Unreleased 1974-84' disc. If not, it's absolutely essential. So underrated. Just total 70s/80s French synth freakout gold. Some of the stuff on their was recorded under the name Ilitch, which you might be more likely to know?

Anyway, get that. I would provide a download link, but couldn't find one. Do a search. If you have no luck, I may be able to find time to upload it.

he is playing dublin soon. 125 fucking euro a ticket. i do actually feel too young to go to this.....would i have to wear a suit and drink crap overly expensive wine and have a slave there to stroke my chin while i read the financial times?

atsonicpark 01.29.2011 01:45 PM

Thanks earl, just got your reccomendation and it rules. I am now trying to attain every Schulze album ever; considering he has a shit-ton of box sets (indeed, he has one with 50 cd's of previously unreleased music)... well, let's just say that it's going to take a while.

Jarre is still god though.

here is my favorite video of all time, it was really hard to find this version on youtube since there are so many amv's and "druggy" homemade videos instead of the actual video they used t oshow on mtv amp all the time:
