He actually played at Terrastock 4 as well.

porkmarras 11.02.2006 09:53 AM

Any good?

Savage Clone 11.02.2006 10:19 AM

Not to my recollection, but perhaps he would be great in more of a "support" role like this.
It wasn't awful or anything, just not that exciting.

porkmarras 11.02.2006 10:38 AM

I wouldn't really expect him to be that good anyway.I'd probably just go to see him play out of curiosity.

dazedcola 11.02.2006 10:41 AM

fuck doug yule

Savage Clone 11.02.2006 10:41 AM

His little bio thing in the Terrastock festival programme was pretty hilarious:

"After singlehandedly discrediting and dismantling the Velvet Underground, Doug Yule went into carpentry for 25 years," or something to that effect. I'm going from memory here, but it was pretty close.
Very self-effacing.

He never made it a secret that he was mostly crap,i'd give him that.Carpentry has to be worse than Mo Tucker when she worked in Wal Mart to make ends meet.

Doug's main crime was keeping VU going post-Reed, although Moe and Sterling both served their time too, so no one is innocent.

The 3rd VU album is my absolute favorite, and he's on it, so I ain't got no beef with him.

porkmarras 11.02.2006 03:49 PM

I'd give him that he has good voice. In fact,i should put him in the list of my favourite vocalists.

porkmarras 11.02.2006 03:54 PM

Punker!

Reed left in August of1970, which meant Doug Yule was now the band's leader. Yule switched from bass to guitar and lead vocals, with former Grass Menagerie bandmate Walter Powers coming in on bass. This lineup recorded two Yule songs, tracks that have never been released (although they would be re-recorded on the final VU album), 'Friends' and 'She'll Make You Cry'. The band toured extensively and was met with exactly the same level of US success as ever, but the VU became a big cult attraction in England and Europe during this period. In '71 Morrison left, and his replacement was ex-Lostand Grass Menagerie cult hero Willie Alexander. This lineup also toured extensively, but never recorded. For the final Velvet Underground sessions, held in the UK during the summer of 1972, the VU were only Doug Yule and Ian Paice, on loan from prog-metal's legendary Deep Purple. It was thought that Willie Alexander may have appeared on the lp, but this is not true. There was one female vocalist in the studio, her identity is at present unknown (any info? Please email) But this is by and large Doug Yule; he produced, he arranged, he wrote all of the songs, he plays everything but the drums. This would be a very different Velvet Underground album. Although technically A VU album (thus it's inclusion in the VU discography), "Squeeze" is more correctly Doug Yule's first solo album, albeit one that maintains the VU's spirit and high quality.

I never listened to that out of sheer stubborness. Is it any good?I suppose many years have passed and i'd give it a go now even though it wouldn't change anything.

CHOUT 11.02.2006 03:58 PM

Never heard it. I am curious.
