Another AC classic

In line with the thread, it's a funny thing, music, isn't it? Because I probably know a good 20-odd people for whom this AC are much more talked about than the vastly more popular AC. And like how someone here said that Radiohead were a mid-level band when they're much closer to the Justin Timberlake side of enormous than the Super Furry Animals.

On with the AC

I'm taking a guess way more people would show up now...

my friend Anthony Joseph Lanman got his PhD in music composition there.

Yeah I thought about that when I typed it. It's just that they seem like the same thing. Though there are vastly more people into Radiohead.

I dunno. I couldn't be bothered to define to myself "mid-level band" for that single post, so I pulled a name out of the air.

sarramkrop 01.08.2009 04:38 PM

even my mum knows who radiohead are, and that's saying something.

she might even think that they're shit, but she wouldn't say.

MellySingsDoom 01.08.2009 04:41 PM

Everyone knows that the best album of all time is that Geroggerigegege album (you know, the one with the microphone feedback and actual recorded wanking).

atsonicpark 01.08.2009 04:41 PM

I do as well (know more people into anal cunt than animal collective -- and I know lots of people into animal collective!).

"Hello Mrs Porky, what do you think of radiohead?"
"It's shit. You know shit as in shite, like a big bag of smelly poo, shit. shit.shit. K?"

HYPE exists to increase the audience for an otherwise little known artist. Hype for BIG, KNOWN artists ussually means that their last records sucked ass and they need to create interest in the new one.

yeah all the hype means is that their PR person is doing a good job

Toilet & Bowels 01.08.2009 07:07 PM

the vinyl for this record sold way more than it would have done had the CD been released the same week, i think a lot of their hardcore fans will have bought the LP just because nothing else was available even though they probably won't listen to it more than once or twice, if they even listen to it at all, they'll just download it or buy the CD and listen to those when they are available. you see how many copies the vinyl sells when other formats are available. releasing the vinyl early to boost sales is just a gimmick to generate further coverage for the release of the other formats.

anyway, you young'uns need to shut your yaps and get out in to the real world where nobody listens to animal collective, when you leave school or university you'll see that every one else listens to beyonce & coldplay.

and everyone in the world is right to listen to beyonce instead of the animal collective.. i'm not sure who is worse out of animal collective and coldplay though.

just as an fyi, they would have sold much more if there was more available... many people are gonna have to wait for the repress now.

and they would have sold a lot less if the vinyl hadn't been released before all the other formats, a CD selling enough copies in its first week of release to get in to the top 200 sellers list is not a newsworthy event, do you see?

acousticrock87 01.08.2009 07:27 PM

They should release the album on t-shirt, first. To sell more t-shirts.

sarramkrop 01.08.2009 07:28 PM

Vivian Girls made it to the billboard top 100 or something too. The Strokes did too, and had quite a lot of hype surrounding them. Ask the guy in your local grocery store if he knows those two bands, and he will ask you to politely leave the premises.

Really? That's bizarre.

i do see, but i do not agree. random casual fans are going to be buying this on cd, not vinyl. hardcore fans are buying both. i don't think it is as big as you are making it. its not like there were gonna be a ton of people waiting for the cd, when the lossless/wav files are floating around, and instead they purchased the vinyl. no, those casual people are just now hearing about the album, and the vinyl is way sold out already.
