albums that sound better QUIETER?

you always see threads about music that sounds best really loud, but never the opposite...

i was inspired to start this thread when listening to kid a by radiohead at a really low volume in headphones, and it sounded wonderful, the music had this even more ambient feel to it, an amazing aural experience...

any other such albums?
:)

Anything ambient I suppose.

demonrail666 05.30.2008 08:39 PM

Yeah, electronica too. Autechre, down low with the lights out is a great sonic experience.

It might be kind of obvious, but Miles Davis In a Silent Way is the perfect choice.

Moon Pix by Cat Power

I cranked it low while listening with headphones so as not to wake the person sleeping next to me... it ended up sounding really good at a low volume.

Low - "I could live in hope". That album is so fragile and magical when listened to at low volumes.

Ambient music is the obvious choice. I usually put on some when I want my gf to hush up and fall asleep.

The Eraserhead soundtrack.

You start forgetting its on and then just start thinking you're in the midst of a nervous breakdown.

Good call. I'd say Bob Dylan. Aaaand The Velvet Underground too, unless Venus in furs is on.
