It's actually a pretty big deal, and a big change, that Dems have the House now, eh?

I just felt.....underwhelmed earlier.

well it is underwhelming

the house can write bill after bill only to have it shut down in the senate

then again they control the budget and can do investigations

maybe they’ll stop paying for mar-a-lago. i dont know ha ha haa

but anyway...

Make fun of what?

The Blue wave crashed in 2016, didn’t do much in 2018, but look for it to build momentum as we approach 2020 with Biden/Beto as the likely Democratic nominees.

President Trump will thrive wheeling and dealing with Dems in the house. Historically the markets have fared well in such gridlock.

Tuesday was a great day!

hahaha! biden/ beto sounds like a great comedy pair

beto btw is the name of bert in mexican sesame street (beto y enrique)

im surprised he got the numbers he did with some of his proposals like impeach trump and abolish ice

i mean i detest the trumpet (detest him), but where are the grounds for impeachment? too much wishful thinking. and then the senate would not convict him. but he did mobilize numbers i guess. read that texas is really a nonvoting state? low turnouts?

washington post talking of a red wall instead of a blue wave

tragically (for me anyway) it seems to be the case

now i don’t know what’s going on internally with the republicans but regardless, they have the numbers...

[...]

yeah, beto seems nice... would be great in portland

unfortunately this is a center-right country... too much to the right if you ask me

o well....

Paul Morrissey, Bob Hugin, PHARMA BROS get a big NO

My neck of the woods was brutal.

Even a local library levy failed!

Yeah, I live in a place where my neighbors say "Fuck the library."

(Actually, they say "lie-berry")

The results are very "blue ripple", but again, the popular vote is 7-8% higher for Dems. That's very significant. But all that gerrymandering and concentration of votes bullshit......

Are USA elections the least democratic of all?

Seems that GOP has a head start by 5+%.

yes, the state elections are very important, too, as the governor and the state legislatures do the vote count and the subsequent realignment of the districts for Representative's elections. We got a HUGE pickup when Scott Walker went down.

ilduclo 11.07.2018 02:16 PM

Oregon went great, ALL the measures I wanted passed got there, ALL the candidates I wanted got there. Just wonderful stuff here, from the bottom of the ticket to the top.
Among the significant measures:

2 really phony corporate anti-tax measures went down, even with the HUGE $$ the corpos poured in

anti-Sanctuary State measure down HARD, take that Trumpo!

anti-abortion measure down HARD

affordable housing initiative passed easily

and in the races

my Demo caucus for House and Sen now has supermajority (66.6%+) to pass revenue bills (state constitutional amendment a few years ago made the 2/3 requirement)

I got my county commission 3/2 Democrat now with a local employment/environmental expert and a female affordable housing advocate replacing 2 troglyditic extractive industry insiders gone

we have elected the nations first female bi-governor in Kate Brown, who is just a great governor as well, despite a wealthy surgeon pouring his own and Phil Knight's millions into negative ads (don;t buy Nike, even if they hired Kapernick)

we even passed school and road repair bonds.

2 native american women will take their seats in congress for the first time in history

that’s something to cheer for

extra bonus, one of them is lesbian

am i playing “identity politics”?

maybe a little...

...but since congress does not reflect the actual demographic composition of this country, i’d argue that straight (or deeply closeted) cis white males have been playing the identity politics game for muuuuuuuch muuuuuuuuuch longer...

I’m not sure how you factor a “blue ripple” against a red wall?

Is it similar to:

LeBron James, Diddy & Rihanna endorsed Beto = LOST
Oprah & Will Farrell endorsed Abrams = LOST
Taylor Swift endorsed Bredesen = LOST
Alyssa Milano endorsed Gillum = LOST
SNL attacked Crenshaw = WIN

Possibly another way to factor it: (after first midterms)

Clinton -52/-8
Obama -63/-6
Trump -34/+3

what he’s saying is the red wall is made of gerrymanders

which is true! (to a point)

but legislatures create those districts so.... hence the importance of voting in every election not just the presidential ones

-x-

anyway governor and senate are statewide so... rough

rough rough rough

gotta admit the georgia dude helped himself bigly though

there’s nothing oprah can do against rampant voter supression

now the guy wants to count his own votes! LMAO

fortunately in kansas similar crook kris kobach’s candidacy ate the big one

(not just bit it, but swallowed it whole)

kansas: not as demented as we thought
