Best Song On Eternal

sorry for calming the snake and no way but hey 10 choices, and reading yr comments these are the weakest yet

i'll go with walkin blue

with malibu right behind
and massage and orgasm

summer 04.28.2009 06:39 PM

Well.. that made no sense. I would say my favorite is "Malibu" or "Anti-Orgasm"

duderanchnurse 04.28.2009 06:40 PM

are you always this positive :)?

summer 04.28.2009 06:44 PM

Oh! I understand it now, sorry. You had to omit those two songs from the poll. Alright.

marleypumpkin 04.28.2009 06:46 PM

I'm digging Poison Arrow a lot. A real departure from the normal SY rock pattern. I still think it sounds a lot like Pavement, which I love.

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 04.28.2009 06:46 PM

There is a 10 option limit. I love No Way and Calming the Snake. I wouldn't say either was one of the best though, so I'm ok with them being omitted.

dionysusundone 04.28.2009 08:23 PM

I think Antenna is my fav so far after two listens, Thunderclap is my least fav, hasn't done it for me yet.

automatic bzooty 04.28.2009 08:26 PM

antenna.
or what we know.
or massage the history.
... i don't know yet.

samuel 04.28.2009 08:31 PM

Walkin Blue
is beautiful

Kuwa_Slayne 04.28.2009 08:32 PM

Really digging Antenna. It's pretty straightforward, but it's really lifting me.

atsonicpark 04.28.2009 08:32 PM

Neongod 04.28.2009 08:42 PM

Massage The History gets better with every listen.

exploding plastic candle 04.28.2009 08:44 PM

Malibu Gas Station made the album for me, at first I wasn't too impressed but from then on, including repeat listens, it has been great. something clicked with that song I guess

canabero 04.28.2009 09:14 PM

why can't we vote for Calming the snake or no way?

pantophobia 04.28.2009 11:31 PM

Massage the History

listening to it for the second time, again i get chills i have never gotten from a Sonic Youth song before, i have been listening to them now nearly 10 years, and never has one of their songs stuck out so much, let alone in the first two listens

it is a total group effort too, Kim's quivering voice, with Thurston's acoustic organics and Lee just ghostly with his echoed slide especially at the 2:40 mark when both Kim's voice cracking and Lee hitting his highest notes as Steve is the lighthouse keeps the ship on course

i don't know much about the back story of the lyrics or title, but it's is unintentionally (intentionally?) appropriate when you consider yes that this song reminds you of Golden Blue, the outro has the tone of Shadow of a Doubt, Kim even sings "All the money is gone" a line lifted all the way back 27 years ago from "I dreamed I dream", and a little after taste of Sweet Shine for good measure

even even with all that, it's still so completely original in it's approach melding voice and guitar in complete frailty that makes me shudder in a way that very few songs have done to me personally

ZEROpumpkins 04.28.2009 11:34 PM

True fans wait for the album to come out on CD.

alteredcourse 04.28.2009 11:38 PM

Poor you, missing out !

Oh God, are we going to get that moronic holier-than-thou discussion even when they're actually streaming it themselves?

pantophobia 04.28.2009 11:44 PM

true fans wait until the band and label decide to "leak" a stream that as incentive to go purchase their pre-orders, instead of waiting for the inevitable pirated leak away where they get no cash from

a damn good business plan

alteredcourse 04.29.2009 12:00 AM

uh oh

Porque cuando haces una encuesta en éste foro solo te da la opción para hasta 10 items, y el último disco de Sonic Youth tiene 12 canciones, asíque el que hizo ésta encuesta dejo dos afuera. Saludos.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to pantophobia again.

Androol 04.29.2009 01:46 AM

anti-orgasm

overall review is that the best moments on this are not as good as the best moments on either of the last two albums although the worst moments on this are better than the worst of the last two

Dr. Eugene Felikson 04.29.2009 08:26 AM

Favorite: Malibu Gas Station

Least Favorite: Walkin Blue

mil_pl 04.29.2009 09:58 AM

thunderclap + anti orgasm for me.

edit: and malibu gas station.

No, on vinyl. Even if they have to re-issue it.

+ 1000
seems you've got it dans le cul, mc fly

mil_pl 04.29.2009 12:07 PM

thunderclap rules the album.

Toxa 04.29.2009 01:18 PM

"Walkin Blue"

just WOW. it is already in my top-3 of Lee songs.

samuel 04.29.2009 01:21 PM

Lee's two are without a doubt my favorites...
followed by Antenna and Massage the History.

True Sonic Youth Fans don't make a reference to another band in their name on a Sonic Youth website.

deflinus 04.29.2009 03:55 PM

malibu gas station

it IS sonic youth. thats it

amerikangod 04.29.2009 04:00 PM

True fans get a full-body tattoo of Thurston, with his all of his features super-imposed over their own.

Anything less and Beck wins.

mysonichaircut 04.29.2009 04:53 PM

1. malibu gas station (thurstons rhytm guitar in the melodic part is awsome)
2. poison arrow
3. antenna, mass history, what we know
4. leaky lifeboat (would be 2. place if there wasnt the lalala-part in it)
5. walkin blue, now way

the rest i dont like at all

poison arrow, leaky lifeboat and malibu gas station fit very well to matador: it reminds me of yo la tengo and pavement.
