Yeah stupid name but for those not in the know, it's a type of indie rock played in a very slow sparse manner.

Codeine, Low, Red House Painters, Bedhead, American Music Club, Idaho...
Anyone want to throw out more recommendations from this field?

Oh! I know several of these "slowcore" bands.
Now I've learned that they're "slowcore" instead of indie rock, or whatever.
I guess the people who used to be in these bands are happy to know what music they were playing 15-20 years ago (finally).

Galaxie 500 of course is more dream pop than slowcore... Codeine, Bedhead, etc listed them as a main influence.

American Analog Set from the 90s, they released a ton of stuff but are one of the longest lasting slowcore bands. Their record "The Fun Of Watching Fireworks" is my favorite, personally.

There's a band called Karate from the 90s... I think at one point they had one of the Swirlies' many drummers in their lineup. Very slowcore influenced, sometimes they're a bit more upbeat but the mood is still there. I think listening to their records that a lot of their songs start to sound very similar, but maybe you'd enjoy them more than I do.

Pedro The Lion isn't ever talked about but they released stuff consistently from the 90s until 2005. They have some good stuff, mostly early on from what I've heard.

Promise Of Love by the American Analog Set is possibly my favourite album that I never think of when thinking about favourite albums.

Are Karate really "slowcore"? I don't think so. I always just thought they were awesome indie rock with some mathy stuff.

Bedhead's my favorite of course..

Smog I definitely don't think follows under Slowcore, maybe just because I love Smog and tend not to like bands that fall under this banner.

I know they've been mentioned a few times already, but this thread reminded me to dig out some Bedhead for the first time in a while, and I'm reminded just how excellent they really were. 'WhatFunLifeWas' is such a great record. Especially 'Bedside Table'. The most underrated slowcore band for me.

I'm not sure slowcore makes any sense when describing the music of Low especially.

Oh, and on another note, I was reading the Resonant Frequency column on Pitchfork (I know, boo, hiss, but I really like that column) yesterday, and it mentioned a pretty forgotten 90s slowcore band called Valium Aggelein, who are a Duster side project. I downloaded some stuff, and although I haven't had a chance to live with it yet, it's pretty great. Definitely worth checking out if you're on a slowcore kick.
