Do you think you would record an album with those musicians?
Why not? I mean, it would be a unique opportunity to bring those people together and imagining the power of those three guitars is enough to make me jump around. We did some great improvisation jam during the last Red Hot Chili Peppers show in Hamburg [in 2007]. Josh Klinghoffer joined the Chili Peppers on that tour on guitar, but I love his drumming. Josh is such an amazing drummer so he would be my choice as a drummer. Also, Steve Shelley of Sonic Youth is great on drums.

Yeah, you've done stuff with Shelley before, correct?
Yes, in September last year, I did some recordings with him. The soundman of Sonic Youth, Aaron Mullan, did the recording in their studio in Hoboken [NJ].

Is that something you'd ever release?
I'm not sure. Like everyone, it's the same problem where all the Sonic Youth guys are busy. But I know from my work that material can sit on the shelf for ten, 20 years, or even longer, and then it can come out of the oven at the right time. And time is not the most important factor. You just have to be lucky that it happened.

You have met some amazing people, including Spike Lee and Jean-Claude Baker (Josephine's adopted son). How do these encounters come about and who has been the most fun to hang out with?
Performing shows regularly means ending up in crazy places, meeting a lot of other artists and like-minded people, but I've also meet some really interesting people in airports and visa queues and late at night in fancy restaurants. I don’t know anything about their music really, but [Sonic Youth drummer] Steve Shelley and I like to discuss food and music a lot. He knows lots of amazing things

Jenn likes Steve too.

The Summer of Jenn

My West Coast jaunt included seven Sonic Youth shows in six states, meeting both Lee Ranaldo and Steve Shelley (including a two-hour convo with the latter and other friends in a Portland bar), and two emotionally charged incidents registering at the extreme ends of the spectrum. Neither of which, clearly, I am ready to discuss on a public forum.

But I can tell you this...with "No Setlist" a pure hit, it's only inspired me to get my other stuff--my first novel, first volume of poetry--out there. I think it's that time.

Quoting yourself is crazed lame, but I have to add that the picture of Lee
holding copies of "No Setlist" is my second favorite picture of all time.
