I know a guy with neodymium implants.

floatingslowly 01.31.2013 10:57 AM

Does he use them to pick up his fork?

I believe The Boy with Neodymium Inside would make a great Morrissey song.

EVOLghost 01.31.2013 11:15 AM

Oh no....:(

I didn't want it this way....:(

floatingslowly 01.31.2013 11:24 AM

Cease vox // commence high-definition depiction of mammaries:

I don't think they are that powerful.

did he accidentally swallow one of those tiny strong magnets?

Yeah...I enjoy swapping parts too much.

;)

Tattoo & piercing shop, thumb and index finger.

so do they have a function other than social/decorative? (and are they magnets?)

Trama 01.31.2013 12:09 PM

yeah, for instance using a smartphone with gloves on. lel.

what they're going after is experiencing a sixth sense and picking up electro-magnetic fields.

floatingslowly 01.31.2013 12:20 PM

Yeah...I've got one of those in my brain. :(

:'(

I met a lady once (sans implants) who could, by using her hand, tell where power conduits ran behind walls. I had this confirmed by the building's chief engineer. That said, EM produces all kinds of VERY BAD health problems, ranging from psychosis, DEEP DEPRESSION, fainting spells, to what manifests as a "seasonal-type" allergy.

Your friend may one day regret this.

ha ha. they already sell gloves with that! i think he's more likely to accidentally wipe his bank cards.

i like the adventurousness of the experiment, but i think it's quite coarse and lacking a philosophical basis-- you can't have a "sense" for which you lack processing in the brain. still, going around feeling pulled by metals must be fun.

as i was saying this, an image similar to this came to my mind:

i would write more about extra-senses but i gotta run right now

everyone has this ability. It's a throwback to the same mechanism that allows bird migration and makes cows align themselves to the field (unless they graze beneath powerlines).

The magnets, especially when placed within fingers, create focal points somewhat akin to a reverse St. Elmo's fire.

eye zeeee.... (the cow stuff. i googled it. peculiar.)

the 2nd paragraph i didn't understand.

Your body, as an electro-chemical machine posseses it's own EMF field in relation to the environment.

EMF field strength is accentuated by curvature. The sharper the point, the greater the concentraton of the field.

theoretically, placing magnets at these points (ie fingertips) would increase field-stength and allow a sensitive to more aptly judge the ambient field.

theoretically....

Personally, I feel as if you'd be begging for cancer.

so far so good. where are the magnetic poles located?

it seems to me more like using tactile receptors to feel the pull of the magnet. "i can feel my finger pulled" is a cheat for one to claim they can "sense" magnetic fields themselves.

it'd be more worried about subcutaneous neodymium implants. the stuff is toxic, and while the magnets are sold coated, they can and do break.

@say wut

See also: lightning rods.

I'm on my phone, so detailed explanation is difficult with my fat thumbs.

Here, I found this, and it should be easy to read:
