Oh I thought EvolGhost was kidding! Ha.

While I haven't listened to this album in wow... A really really long fucking time... I still love it and always will even if I never hear it again. It's just one of those albums that I'll get an impulse to sing out loud, and I won't stop until I've been through every song. Though I don't sing out loud, and so it happens in my head at an accelerated pace and I cut out the lengthy lyric less chinks so it takes about 10 minutes. But still.

I don't think I'd find it even remotely special if I heard it today though, since so many adult contempo type bands have milked this sound for all it's worth. I'm sure to new ears it's like, "hey is this the new [okkervil river Mumford and Suns of Monsters and Men blah blah crap band] song? ... Sounds like the Black FUCKING keys."

But whatever. It's not like it's Spiderland or something.

There is no HOOD vinyl around me. They deserve vinyl, so I don't buy their albums on CD. Sounds not great.

I have Silent 88 on CD, Cold House and Outside Closer on vinyl.

very hard to find their output in Texas.

I saw them as they opened for Mogwai when Cold House was released, they were fantastic (and better than Mogwai).

In the summer, when it gets really hot here —you know, those days when you can't really bring yourself to listen to almost anything because the heat makes you feel like a St. Bernard dog that's been transplanted from the Swiss Alps to a goddamn furnace— I put on "Brand New Companion" and "Cocaine Blues" from that album, itself recorded inside a hot as hell venue, and it's a spirit-lifter every time...

I have such good memories of that show, was one of the best things i saw in 2012.
