Peepholes. Found myself blacking out and dancing to these every weekend for the past month. I'm thinking of joining twitter just to send them a well done message on being so tremendously spectacular.
Sleaford Mods. Only heard of these today, apparently they slag/mention SY in a song. Trivia bomb right there. Legowelt. |
Had an urge to revisit this specific Cramps collection all week. It sounds so goddamn good. I turned to this more than any proper Cramps album during my days as a drag racing greaser ghoul in the 1950's. Seriously though... Like Barbed Wire Kisses by JAMC, it's one of the rare classic band comps that plays more like an album, and is so goddamn good that it tops a most of the band's studio output. |
All This and Nothing by the Psychedelic Furs is like that as well, a comp that plays like a great album.

Oh absolutely, I totally fucking agree. That's an excellent one, and I would have mentioned it if I'd thought to do so. Hell yeah. Gonna listen to that shit next. |
There are more out there.... maybe Dead Letter Office by REM. Maybe some BBC sessions releases. But rare indeed are the comps that are either as good or better than the proper discography.

'feeling good' is great. I must get me some more Nina Simone.
And I loved the Yeye tune. We get a show here in OZ on the TV called 'Pop Asia' and very rarely they might play something like this. Mostly it's boy-bands or girl groups. Meanwhile, I've been checking out stuff on the net about a tribute project for Jeffrey Lee Pierce (Gun Club). This is Nick Cave & Debbie Harry: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4QC6SvoXzE |

I remember those days! Pain Teens shows were crazy!
Ed Hall, Crust, Johnboy, all put on great shows. Love & Napalm... did you see the bands nominated for BEST ROCK ALBUM in the BillBoard awards? Here are the nominees Lana Del Rey "Born To Die" Fall Out Boy "Save Rock n Roll" Imagine Dragons "Night Visions" Lorde "Pure Heroine" Mumford & Sons "Babel" Jesus fuck!!!!! Rock and roll, being dead, turned over in it's grave. Imagine Dragons won, BTW. |

I have never listened to this band simply because I can never be sure it's not the British Mono who had some crappy post-trance mtv hit in the late 90s. I hear the Japanese Mono is spectacular , so tell me all about them. :) |

It was best metal album. Not only that, it was the first best metal album, and the first time Metal was a category in itself on the Grammy roster. Now I think they just have a best metal "performance," (song, I guess. Past winners include Tool for "aenema") and a Best Hard Rock album category that both "metal" and "rock" artists can both be nominated for. Why is it that there still isn't a best independent album category, or a best independent rock album category? Bands like Flaming Lips, Arcade Fire, TV on the Radio, and St. Vincent, and Vampire Weekend always just end up in the best alternative album category, which has been home to bands like Green day, Offspring, Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails (who were also metal for a while and hard rock for a while... Lol) and. Ah who fuckin cares. I don't want the Lips to win Grammys. Some might argue they're the Pink Floyd of our generation, but still... They're a bunch of crazy biker pirate mad scientists to me, and they belong nowhere near that whole scene. Though incidentally they did perform at the BB music awards. Sigh. |

actually REALLY good. Why was this shat on so much? |
Today I was listening to some records that I used to like but haven't listened to in ages.
better than I remembered. If the sadness of life makes you tired And the failures of man make you sigh You can look to the time soon arriving When this noble experiment winds down and calls it a day Time has come now to stop being human Time to find a new creature to be Be a fish or a weed or a sparrow For the earth has grown tired and all of your time has expired All the gardens are sprouting with flowers All the treetops are bursting with birds And the people all know that it's over They lay down all their airs and they hang up their tiresome words mhh... not so good. 45 degrees is fantastic though. |

It was? The few reviews I read were off the charts, particularly AllMusic's and Robert Christgau's (who placed it in "the great Moore-Ranaldo tradition", by the way). The album is damn phenomenal - I got the CD and the clear vinyl with the beach ball! |
