Beautiful People is so good.

listen to antichrist svperstar again. the layering, the backing guitars, the electronica, none of that was part of Marilyn Manson before that record. i am not saying its a NIN record, but it is definitely got Trent Reznor's fingerprints all over it. indeed that is more or less what Daisy Berkowitz said pushed him out of the band, than Manson and Reznor more or less took over the album.

and i totally agree with Marilyn Manson sucking after Reznor stopped being involved. just like with Kanye West, i don't diss what i haven't listened too and i checked out all the Marilyn Manson records and didn't dig them.

i would also say listen to it again, it might be more complex a record than you remembered. it is definitely a concept album both lyrically, sonically, and production wise

I don't know. Maybe for a laugh if I have absolutely nothing better to do and nothing else to listen to. If I want to hear Trent's layered industrial find there's always Downward Spiral, which I actually relish the thought of hearing because it's so good.

It may be that there's something else keeping me from wanting to revisit this stuff. Probably never mentioned this, but one of my best friends died right around the time I started listening to Manson. Months before, actually. It was a bad period.

don't know guys. didn't like NIN or MM then and don't now. both are kinda silly and was never raw or noisy enough. after Nirvana and Sonic Youth I could never go back to that mainstream fluff.

I did, finally after 22 years, checked out Downward Spiral couple weeks ago. some good songs but meh. meh.

I just realized how pretentious that sounds. im certain I was more mature at 17 than I am now.

I was actually into NIN before Sonic Youth. It was Nirvana, then NIN, then Sonic Youth caught my interest a big later. But I think NIN was instrumental in helping me identify what I wanted to hear more of in music (expanse, experimentation, space, tonal variety, interesting sounds), things that Nirvana kind of lacked through no fault of their own, simply by being a mainstream rock band that played short simple songs.

Without the Downward Spiral, I don't think I ever would have developed an ear for the atmospherics of Daydream Nation and EVOL and ATL, etc. I actually have a ton of respect for Trent Reznor. He got me into Throbbing Gristle too. So in my case, Nirvana was really the "fluffiest" band in that little situation. But I learned the basics of what I loved about music from them as well, and I can pretty much thank them entirely for exposing me to punk and post-punk.

i agree with your not particularly digging Downward Spiral but check out other stuff you might dig it more. im particularly enjoying The Fragile right now, i like it a lot more

The Game just dropped a song where he's calling for peace:

“All these murders on the news, every week it's another one”

Abra's new EP is really good.. been listening to it a lot lately. Also like the new Jeremih mixtape.

And we're getting a new PARTYNEXTDOOR album next week..

It's been great year for R&B.

I don't think I'm into Partynextdoor. I kinda tried to be. I like some of the production on his second album (mixtape, whatever), but man... whole lotta Drake going on in that guy's world. And I am, at least for the moment, 100% over Drake and all associated parties.

Watch him beat Beyoncé, Bowie, and whatever other obvious choices emerge for Album of the Year Grammy. Just watch.

I think I actually am going to punch Drake if I ever get the opportunity. The urge has just been welling up in me for far too long. I'm ready to go to jail for it at this point.

the cheapest seat for the Drake/Future concert in Houston in September is running $160

what a crock of shit.

what kinda non-drug-dealing-hip-hop-head is gonna be able to afford this? Drake and Future don;t give a fuck.

Oh for a Hip Hop Fugazi.....

There were seats at the Ye show for well under $100. I think $80 was the min, maybe. And I know you hate Kanye, but ... y'know... It's Kanye Fucking West, so... yeah.

To be sure I didn't settle for tickets that cheap. I actually spent more than I'm willing to admit. But, of course, it's totally worth it. ;)

I get that Drake AND Future are playing at these shows, but that's an absurd amount for cheap seats.

Btw: I'll take Future over Drake any day of the week these days. Even shitty Future.

SuchFriendsAreDangerous 07.22.2016 06:05 PM

taking future over drake is like Hillary over Trump, its not like its a decision that makes anyone involved happy about it

pepper_green 07.22.2016 06:11 PM

I would choose to save my money for something more worthwhile.

T.I. is coming to a town near me and I think he's pretty cheap. well, around the 45 - 80 dollar range. the Ying Yang Twins played here last year. I think it was like 13$. haha!! I walked there, wasn't much happening.

Oh, hey! Let's hope so!

louder 07.24.2016 03:08 PM

Man I think "Birds of the Trap Sing McKnight" is going be great.. I've heard the single ("Pick Up the Phone" featuring Young Thug and Quavo) and it's one of the best songs of the year, easily. No idea when it's coming out though.

Severian 07.25.2016 09:06 PM

Gave Blank Faces LP a brief listen today. Mostly just had time to catch the feel of a track and move on to the next one. I can see why it's getting some good buzz. There are some really solid beats on the album. And sonically it seems like it's got a lot of range (not TPAB range, but along similar lines). Def better than Oxymoron, I'll tell you that right now.

I haven't purchased it yet. There's just been too much going on in my life lately to really process new music. But I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy it.

Q kinda sounds like whoever the dude from ICP is sometimes though. And other times he sounds like B Real. Then he sounds like Kendrick. I'm still not sold on him as an MC, frankly, but I'm down to listen to good, weird rap. We need more weird rap. Until Danny Brown's album drops, I'm gonna need something like this..
