mark from pavement to play bass for the tour!

just revealed on the 6music interview! mark from pavement will fill in jims bass parts in the upcoming tour!! more soon!!

logcabinrecluse 04.18.2006 07:11 AM

what?

HaydenAsche 04.18.2006 07:12 AM

Holy Hell. Is this for real?

Lame.

Danny Himself 04.18.2006 07:13 AM

Yeah, Thurston mentioned this. Basically he'd just play bass parts on Kim songs, like Jim did, so Kim can flail spastically to whatever song she's singing.

logcabinrecluse 04.18.2006 07:23 AM

i'm calling bullshit. when does thurston ever talk straight-up.

are they starting another trilogy too?

Soundtrax 04.18.2006 07:31 AM

to me it sounded like a joke :)

the ikara cult 04.18.2006 07:34 AM

Didnt sound like a joke to me, it seemed believable.
Edit: Its a fairly mainstream station so i dont imagine a great deal of people would know who mark from Pavement was, and almost as few who Thurston was. So if it was a joke it would be lost on virtually everyone.

A Thousand Threads 04.18.2006 07:36 AM

i hope it is a joke

the ikara cult 04.18.2006 07:39 AM

Why? It couldnt be terrible... could it?

jon boy 04.18.2006 07:50 AM

makes sense. he did all the free kitten stuff so they know he is tried and tested.

silverfreepress (sdasher) 04.18.2006 08:02 AM

but who will bartend in the west village now?

ps. this would be great news if you ask me

nicfit 04.18.2006 08:03 AM

............hm......i'd prefer to see them as a 4-piece , but i also think that sy would "hire" only someone they're confident in...kim worked with him, eventually he proved good enough,i guess.the strange thing in my mind is_____i'll take no pictures of him if i get to see them in the upcoming tour...don't know why,but i felt jim as "one new sonic youth member",and i feel mark as "the guy who plays the bass for them on tour...".....

silverfreepress (sdasher) 04.18.2006 08:15 AM

This isn't some session player its Mark Ibold. New Yorker, music fan, friend of Malkmus and other woodland creatures.

nicfit 04.18.2006 08:30 AM

you're right silverpress, that's the reason why i said "the strange thing in my mind is"..etc.maybe it's just because he didn't take part in the recording of the album...or did he?

jon boy 04.18.2006 08:36 AM

they will get spiral stairs to tend bar.

silverfreepress (sdasher) 04.18.2006 08:39 AM

No I don't think he had anything to do with the recording process. I'd like Mark to tour. He's a booster and I'm sure he'd be fun to tour with.

noumenal 04.18.2006 08:45 AM

Have any of you guys read Lee's Lollapalooza journal from '95 where he writes about how impressive Pavement were on the tour?

Rob Instigator 04.18.2006 09:10 AM

PAVEMENT RULED!

Mark Ibold on the bass
that's cool. give Kim a guitar and have her ROCK.
that damn rickenbacker is heavy

Everyneurotic 04.18.2006 09:23 AM

wasn't the whole point of jim leaving that kim was back "rocking the bass"?

plus, jim did a whole lot more than just play bass

i think this is an instance when it's not bad or good, it's just news and that's it. i'm pretty sure they will sound great.

remains to be seen and heard

Everyneurotic 04.18.2006 09:51 AM

on interview, the band stressed that kim was back playing bass

that was my point
