Speaking of TDE... does anyone else think Ab-Soul is a joke?
Every head I know seems to think he's great but I can't stand him and believe me, I've tried.

Yeah, I have that Longterm Mentality album and ... Wow. Snore. Seriously, there's nothing wrong with soft tracks or tracks that built, or just plain mellow rap, but that mufuh's boring as shit.

Wait, what's TDE?

Should I feel dumb?

Probably at least a little bit. Sigh.

He has the corniest lines though... I mean some of his lyrics make me groan out loud... I also hate his "I watch Youtube videos about 911/Illuminati conspiracy theories and think I know what's really going on" politics.

Yeah, I listened to that album a total of ONE time from start to finish and now it only comes on as a function of the shuffle option.

I am very picky about my political hip hop. I mean, rarely are the semi-educated "philosophical" emcees the ones who have compelling political identities. Surprisingly, I feel that the Kanye's, Raekwons, RZA's, the Jiggas-- of the world, along with obvious choices like Dead Prez-- end up being the ones with more sincere political opinions, and it's usually because they understand social dynamics and grew up in areas where race was a handicap from birth.

Much as I think Sole can shred, he will never know what the fuck he's shredding about.

foreverasskiss 04.08.2014 09:28 PM

fickle hip hop? blah!! you fucking white boys are crazy!!!

half of this shit you waste yr time on is.

SuchFriendsAreDangerous 04.08.2014 09:34 PM

So between the "what are you listening to?" and "louder's hip hop" thread I've come to realize that in that past few years recently music has entirely passed me by, and I have no idea half the time who people are talking about, where as 5 years ago even if I didn't like it, I had heard it.

foreverasskiss 04.08.2014 09:49 PM

so if louder dies would we post pics of Kaynes nee caps and extract (Kaynes) DNA off of Kim's bruised lips and do a Jurassic Park what if? maybe in 2035 we can all fuck Kim's cunt and feel "Hell of a Life" super and download it as an app while only available to those 13 under? or we could taste every pussy juice Lil Wayne has ever injested unintentionaly for free. it would be like an app of a photo of crusty white and black vagina with a receipe like purchaser of purple dank juice with the option of herpies or AIDS. mutherfucking AIDS!!!!!

foreverasskiss 04.08.2014 09:57 PM

AIDS!!! your gonna die of AIDS!!!

i said i would troll this thread till i die and i'm keeping my word.

btw: i think you guys are virgins. PUNK ASS BITCH!!!!

last year he had some cringeworthy features, he prolly wrote those verses in 5 mins while he was in the bathroom or something. Control System does have some really great lyrics though. he doesn't even talk about all the 3rd eye bullshit as much as people think on that album. "The Book of Soul" actually made me weep.

and he's delivered some great features lately. i think his next album is going to surprise many people who've doubted him.

I thought the pfork review was weird. See, they nailed on the reissue stuff, but then seemed to miss the new album so much. And I think maybe the problem is that by packaging them together, it creates this problem. You're forced to "compare" an undoubted classic that you've had 20 years to listen to, get familiar with, and love even more against an album you've had about a week to listen to.

Reviews are so mixed on the new one. I love it hard though. I've been on such a Mobb Deep kick since it came out. I listened to the 94 Sessions yesterday and Murda Muzik last night.

I think the 94 Sessions are interesting, but to me not really something I'd reach for on the regular. It's like, a cool piece of history and shows just how much work went into the final album. Something like "Give Up The Goods" was fully realized right? But it wasn't amazing until that beat was matched up w/ the lyrics.

Anyway, I'm rambling, but I love the new album. I don't know why I seem to be hearing things diff than a lot of other folks. But I hear a victory lap. I hear a celebration. There's so many tracks on there that are the "oh no wait THIS ONE is my favorite!" y'know?

Severian 04.10.2014 12:14 PM

You post some crazy mescaline fueled line of bullshit every now and again, but people just read on by and don't even bother responding. That can't be very satisfying.

well, i was and still am. you'd be suprised at the shit i listen to you guys recommend. i'd rather people ignore my fucked up post because i prefer it like that. don't worry, i've been listening to tons of hip hop. radio friendly or not.

i see you've changed yr sig. i was going to but couldn't decide which pic of miles from risky business to choose from.

noisereductions 04.10.2014 08:03 PM

what'cha been listening to forever?

foreverasskiss 04.10.2014 08:12 PM

Rocky ASAP or anything that's radio friendly. maybe a little early nelly or mystikal and very recent underground recommendations. digging on some MBDTF the other day.

i have four pages to comb over here when i have time.

err, a wise man told me long ago that the only rock music you need is the stooges and VU. i've remembered that like yr dads advice on women. it's so ture. i listen to everything closely

noisereductions 04.10.2014 08:20 PM

Rocky is def one of my absolute favs out there right now. I've listened to Live.Love.A$AP. a lot in the past few months. And started giving Lords Don't Worry more attention too.

VU <3

Severian 04.11.2014 08:04 AM

I didn't think I had a sig. Are you talkin' about my avatar?

Yeah. I've only had three, and they all correspond with my most heavily anticipated album of a given year. I started out with a "HUH?" jpg to celebrate Sweet Heart, Sweet Light. Then, the big surprise of 2013, Black Bug's Reflecting the Light, which sold about four copies, but was the best fucking rock album of the year, with the best cover art. Made me feel like punk was still alive and breathing in some Swedish goth club.

Now I'm flashing the Wu-Signal, because in 2014, Wu Tang may not be the hero hip hop wants, but they're exactly what hip hop needs. Little Dark Knight Rises reference for ya, to accompany the Batman theme.

Wu needs to come up like Bats after Bane whooped his ass, and take their fuckin city back. Hell, they need to take their whole fucking genre back. Then your with Kanye West and Underachievers. :)

So many of your posts regarding music are about how everyone is going too fast and you can't keep up, when you've never really went beyond the same 10 bands you started here with in the first place anyway.

yeah I'm super excited for the Illmatic docu. The XX edition of the album comes out this week too.

I'd say that about 30% of the music I got is from the 90s, about 15% was released in the 80s, about 30% is from the 70s, about 8% from the 1960s, 1% from 1920s-1950s, and the rest (the remaining 16%) is 2000s.

Nobody mentioned that there was a new Dopplegangaz LP out. Look at me, bitching about how I missed Hark last year. Now I've got a new album creeping up my ass that I only knew about because I go to the record store all the time. And I saw it there.

It's called "Peace Kehd" and it is possible it's a reissued mixtape or something, because my copy says deluxe, but it's only one disc, and I've never heard it before.

In any case, it fucking slays. Something I've absolutely come to expect from this band that I love but know very little about. They're hard, and that's all they're is to it. Sorry schoolboy, Rick, Sage the boring ass Gemini. The first chunk of this year is all about Mobb Deep and Dopplegangaz.

Also, Smell the DA.I.S.Y. Is goddamn excellent. (So is Pińata, but it's still grow in' on me).
