chrono trigger ds

On July 2, 2008, Square Enix announced that Chrono Trigger will be revamped for the Nintendo DS and released in North America during the 2008 holiday season.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!

Talk about long overdue!

mangajunky 07.03.2008 09:59 AM

great game, multiple endings, and now multi-player.

LittlePuppetBoy 07.03.2008 12:35 PM

Fuck! I've been wanting to play Chrono Trigger for a very long time, but have no DS!

atsonicpark 07.03.2008 12:38 PM

do you have a ps2 or ps3? It's on the ps1 as "final fantasy chronicles".

I have 2 copies for the SNES, both of which are pretty worn out from extended play throughs. I can beat the game in 12 hours at this point...

I own CT for both the SNES and PS1, so I doubt I'll be picking this up.

Square needs to focus on creating original games, not rehashing the same products to their loyal fanbase ad nauseam.

atsonicpark 07.03.2008 01:53 PM

I personally don't think square has released a good game since the ps1 games (Dragon Quest VIII was amazing, but that was enix's baby.. and it was developed by level-5 who have yet to do anything that wasn't top notch).

But damn ps1 square was amazing... xenogears is my favorite game ever besides super metroid .

Are you sure? I think you're wrong. I got the rerelease of ff 1 and 2 together which was call ff anthology and ff4 and 5 which I think was called ff chronicles.

Chrono Trigger = Love. Now, if only they could've introduced all these wonderful ideas while I was still involved (or obsessed, rather) with the gaming world.

I'm not wrong.

FF1 and 2 was "Origins".
FF5 and 6 was "Anthology".
FF4 and Crono Trigger was "Chronicles".

LittlePuppetBoy 07.04.2008 01:42 PM

I no own a playstation. Wait, actually my brother's ex gave me her playstation before she left the country. and my friend has FF Chronicles 0.0

Actually I've worked it out. We're both wrong and right. Those games were released as I said in the UK. Crono Trigger has never been released in the UK. ff6 was rereleased separately, I've got it.

atsonicpark 07.04.2008 01:50 PM

weird!!!!!!!

Lurker 07.04.2008 01:53 PM

I know. Why do the companies do that? And they never rereleased ff3 for ps1 so I could never complete my collection.

Lurker 07.04.2008 01:55 PM

Although actually I think you're right, I don't think they did use the word "chronicles". It was just "anthology" and "origins".

atsonicpark 12.14.2008 09:31 PM

I bought this. It kicks balls.

Pax Americana 12.14.2008 10:16 PM

Chrono Trigger is my fav RPG of all time. I think I've played through that game like maybe 40 times.

I agree. I didn't care for FFX and nothing else they've done has been great either. Seriously, what the fuck happened?

I was pretty disappointed my DQ8, it was the first DQ game to get a UK release (i think), and the first i ever played, i was expecting something pretty special due it is legendary reputation on the SNES, i just found it totally unremarkable, i gave up after about 25 hours. too much level gaining required, unimaginative story, bland graphics, too much aimless wandering about on the world map, monotonous music.... it just seemed about 15 years behind the times.

atsonicpark 12.16.2008 05:34 AM

The Dragon Quest series subscribes to the theory "if it ain't broke, why fix it?"

Toilet & Bowels 12.16.2008 07:00 AM

yeah, i guessed, it just seems kind of complacent, and why bother making a sequel if it's just going to be the same? especially now that what may have seemed fresh 15 or 20 years ago now seems tired and cliche.

i think the concept of level gaining in rpgs needs to be done away with.

atsonicpark 12.16.2008 07:02 AM

Because that's what Japanese people want. Apparently.

Toilet & Bowels 12.16.2008 07:47 AM

My RPGs questions:

1. Why is it that most RPGs take place in a land/planet where dangerous monsters freely roam the countryside, and why does it mostly happen to be the case that the monsters get stronger and stronger the further you travel through the world?

2. Isn't it uncanny that each town you visit has slightly stronger and more expensive armour & weapons than the last?

3. Why is it that most RPGs seem to take place on planets that only have about 10 towns or cities, and you just so happen to be on the trail of an enemy that seems intent on visiting all 10 of them?

4. Why is it always up to a moody teenage boy to save the world from total destruction at the hands of an all powerful mad man?

5. Why do the women characters think that bikinis & high heel boots are appropriate attire for the battle field?

6. Why do characters suddenly become capable of super strength when they are about to die?

7. Why do characters that you first encounter as enemies that later join your party always become much weaker when they do so?

8. Why do the monsters that roam the globe always seem to carry large amounts of money on them?

atsonicpark 12.16.2008 08:07 AM

Repped.

atsonicpark 02.22.2010 05:22 PM

i agree. an rpg about a middle aged man having trouble with his wife and paying his mortgage would greatly entertain me. why didn't "A Serious Man" have a video game accompaniment? I'd be playing the shit out of that

I've beaten both those games tons of times, and can emulate them on an emulator which speeds up the game a shitton, so I can quickly enter battles and gain experience instead of grinding forever. No way I'll regret it.

though I kinda do selling shin megami tensei nocturne, but I did get $90 for a game I paid $20 for so..

Toilet & Bowels 02.23.2010 07:40 AM

Are there any significant differences between the SNES and DS versions of Chrono Trigger?

atsonicpark 02.23.2010 07:43 AM

Yeah, the DS version has an extra dungeon or two, and you can recruit monsters to fight in a colloseum. Hardly significant differences, it might equal another hour of game time, or two.
