Just in case anyone thinks that Primal Scream are typified by their modern incarnation, they should be aware that 'Velocity Girl' is a classic piece of jangly guitar pop. There's some fine stuff on that compilation, ny top five being:

i just love C-86...

and 'velocity girl' is probably the second best thing primal scream ever did, the best being obviously 'shoot speed/kill light'.

Any word on whether "C81" will be reissued on CD? That was a better comp as far as quality and variety of bands.

Funny that the "C86" sound became tantamount for a while to a genre or category, and yet it had so little resemblance to the Ron Johnson bands on the comp.

Now that would be sweet. I only ever got to hear that tape once, and it was a pretty fucked-up copy, but I remember it being pretty amazing to my young and innocent ears.

The NME C81 Cassette was given away with the British magazine New Musical Express in 1981 and released in conjunction with the record label Rough Trade. Intended to mark the first 5 years of the independent label movement in the UK record industry and Rough Trade itself, it was the first in a series of many cassette releases from the paper. on a similar vein, i just picked up an anthology of crispy ambulance and talulah gosh..... fucking brilliant albums!

is this a new thread and the return of sonicl??? unfortunately those comps as far as i am aware never made it to australian shores, and news agencies here had the habit for a long time of taking all those promo things off of the magazines.
