I am almost embarrased to say

that after re-sorting my records, I have 57 full-length, 12", or 10" records from Sonic Youth and side projects..
I have around 40 7" singles from Sonic Youth and side projects.

My fiancee thinks I have a problem.

stu666 04.08.2010 05:39 PM

don't be embarrased

Count Mecha 04.08.2010 06:39 PM

That's pretty impressive. All I have is the Murray Street LP.

cagedbird 04.09.2010 04:13 AM

It's not what you think. SY fans everywhere depend on you for their determined feelings about Sonic Youth. Thanks for posting. Just as cool as seeing Thurston Moore one fall day at the bus-stop.

well of course, the lady is right, you do have a problem, the problem is you can't find a copy of 7" #41...I didn't know there are 40+ singles out there...thats awesome...it would be a problem if you were say, collecting used tissue from their hotel rooms...just tell her that you are a person who believes in commitment to what you love and this is an example of that...you might not want to explain your porn collection that way

Rob Instigator 04.09.2010 09:02 AM

I am down with all advice especially NOT explaining porn collection in such a manner.

radarmaker 04.09.2010 09:07 AM

Last time I checked I was around 80 LPs/12s, 6 10s & 30 7s.

Rob Instigator 04.09.2010 09:14 AM

it is the biggest part of my record collection by far.

mil_pl 04.09.2010 09:53 AM

haha! keep it up Rob.

Rob Instigator 04.09.2010 10:01 AM

wait till I get that double LP of Hits R 4 squares and the white vinyl re-issue of CIS!

hevusa 04.09.2010 10:12 AM

you should lay them out and take a pic (you freak)

EVOLghost 04.09.2010 10:40 AM

Nice!!!!!! Well done rob. You make sy proud

radarmaker 04.09.2010 12:58 PM

I stand corrected: I've only got 79 LPs/12"s & 29 7"s.

Rob Instigator 04.09.2010 01:32 PM

nice to see others with my sickness

SonikJesus 04.09.2010 09:18 PM

You should be embarrassed!!!!! She's right. Get rid of them.

Can I have them?

ann ashtray 04.10.2010 02:14 AM

I've got 60 something CD's (side projects included). I move around a pretty good bit, and being that I've recently taken to collecting vinyl I'm considering selling some of the CD's off. CD's are a bitch.

I've got maybe 12 SY related records.

stu666 04.10.2010 10:19 AM

including side projects i have:

100+ bought CDs (3 3"), 20 tapes, 7 videos, 2 DVDs, 20 books, 70 12", 6 10" and about 50 7" but these numbers change almost weekly.

EVOLghost 04.10.2010 11:27 AM

damn....tihs thread will become a pissing contest for who ever's got the biggest SY collection.

themawt71 04.11.2010 01:13 PM

pics!?

CHOUT 04.12.2010 08:22 PM

I've added to mine lately, due to another ebay binge...I've never counted my vinyl...

+1 ...........

scott v 04.15.2010 11:18 AM

heh, i know how that goes... my record collection is large to say the least... i have one of those large IKEA shelves that are perfect for storing 12" vinyl records, i think i have in the ballpark of at least 1000 to 1500 albums... my fiance also thinks i'm nuts also add in that i play guitar and all that gear, luckily i haven't cluttered the house too much... i think i have somewhere around only 30 or so SY and related pieces of vinyl.

Dr. Eugene Felikson 04.15.2010 11:33 AM

I'd probably shit my undies if I ever physically interacted with that collection in real life. I'm excruciatingly jealous, Rob.

Rob Instigator 04.15.2010 11:58 AM

it was a slow build. I bought mainly CD's until around 1996 when I got a sweet turntable. then it was mostly vinyl

I started on vinyl, then cassettes, then CD's, and then back

to vinyl.

I too have a large IKEA shelf unit for my records.

one whole square opf that unit is devoted solely to SY releases, 12" singles, 10" singles and side projects.
will be adding HITS R FOR SQUARES double LP and confusion is sex white vynil on saturday!

Dr. Eugene Felikson 04.15.2010 12:34 PM

I only still have a few of my cassettes. I listen to them in the car, when 90.9 is playing their daytime classical, as opposed to their nighttime jazz.

I sold my soul to the devil a long time ago.

chicka 04.15.2010 02:54 PM

Have they done anything to the vinyl or to the needle to extend the life of the vinyls or do they start poppin' soon than you want

Rob Instigator 04.15.2010 03:21 PM

the trick is in keeping the records clean.

new needle every 6 months.

like taking care of yr car's engine.
