Reading between the lines, I'm guessing/hoping for Nels to play with the Lee band at tonight's show in his hometown (if you can call LA that)...

Don't think this was mentioned here yet:

Those that won't be able to make it may watch the videos afterwards (hopefully)

Lee's show was great at Spaceland tonight! No Nels like I guessed, but overflowing with guitar. I listened back to a few parts of my recording, it sounds really good to my ears, certainly light years ahead of my previous efforts. I'll have to look into splitting the tracks, not sure if it needs any further audio treatment (less is more in my book). Will upload here when done, open to help/suggestions with the technicalities as this will be my first recording of sufficient audio quality to be worth doing right. There was a new cover song tonight: "Thank You For Sending Me An Angel" which was played as a medley with Fire Island. Hammer Blows featured a cool noise section with violin bow (played on his original Telecaster Deluxe now painted metallic blue, not mentioned in earlier guitar nerd discussions related to this album, extensively documented by Chris L.) . Setlist was similar to all other shows from this band so far.

There was a new cover song tonight that he described as being a song from NY late 70's/early 80's that inspired him early on his early musical path, I couldn't quite place it, very familiar though, gonna kick myself when I figure it out. Wow, thanks! I use Audacity to split the tracks, it can be download for free: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ if the recording sounds good to you then I'd say upload it as it is after you've tracked it....

I realized too late after we left I should have taken on Chris L's role (no portland/seattle/vancouver shows for now?) in documenting the current state of the guitars/amps/tunings/etc...

Here is my recording of Lee and his band at Spaceland, LA, CA 2012/04/11. It is my first recording with good sound, my first serious attempt at recording, editing and uploading a show. I applied -0.5db normalization on Audacity. Let me know if there is anything wrong, I will attempt to rectify it.

thanks a lot h_s for sharing your recording!

hipster_bebop_junkie 04.14.2012 02:00 PM

I love it, especially because the vocals sound really clear on it. Thank you so much, hirsute_biped!

paulaama 04.14.2012 03:23 PM

is there any chance...

is there any chance that lee ranaldo (and the disappears) plays in brazil anytime soon?? :)

rappard 04.14.2012 03:37 PM

F**king h**l, can't believe this was done with only an iPhone. Top job hirsute_biped!

hirsute_biped 04.14.2012 04:22 PM

Thanks, and you are all very welcome! My thanks to hipster_bebop_junkie for suggesting the Fire app, it worked surprisingly well! I just recorded Acid Mothers Temple last night with it, will post that over in the non-sonics zone sometime later this coming week when I have time to edit & whatnot. I've been taking from this board for a long time, excited to give back some now that I've got a few functional tools at my disposal. Only problem is now I'm kinda broke and finals are coming, probably won't be going to too many shows for a few months. Such is student life.

Oh yeah, I am actually registered at dimeadozen, but something is wrong with my torrent software (vuze) and/or macbook (a hard bump a while ago broke disc drive and audio in jacks, maybe more inside?) so dime hardly ever actually works correctly for me, something to do with ports or something I don't understand. Therefore, anybody who wants to put this or any other recording I do up on dime is welcome to do so, giving credit where credit is due. That is until I get everything working, which won't be anytime soon.
