I jumped on twitter and this was the first I saw regarding the World Health Organization calling the outbreak a pandemic. It was a minute or so later that my wife came out informing me the rodeo was canceled. My wife, daughter and some of her friends were going to see Lizzo Friday night (not now). On the radio they said the Houston rodeo has a bigger financial impact on the cities economy than when they host the Super Bowl. The 60000 patrons that attend daily during the week increases to 75000+ on the weekends.

On the way home we stopped at Sams Club to pick up a few things, they were all out of toilet paper. I haven’t heard that the crono gives you the shitzo’s, so I’m unsure why TP is such a hot commodity???

We didn’t go to purchase TP, I just saw they were out......which was odd. We have an unopened case, I’m guessing enough to last three weeks, but we’ll be looking to buy more.

I work at a public hospital. We just began rigorous testing two days ago. Out of almost 300 cases tested, only one has come back positive (however with results taking multiple days, this is bound to climb sharply).

That said, we are still in the early days. This thing has been circulating in China since at least the middle of December, and community acquired cases are all but guaranteed to have been occurring for weeks here.

The toilet paper apocalypse is the tip of the iceberg showing, as those items take up large-volumes of shelf space. Soon most items will be hard to come by.

Personally, I've been preparing since early January, and I feel that I'm ok to shut my front door and not walk out for 2 months. As I see it, the virus won't be the biggest issue. Everyone will get it, and most won't die. The problem will be the lack of medicines, fuel (for Oz at least), and as someone who tries to only buy 95%+ made in Australia, a large number of groceries.

Small businesses will fail, people's rent will go unpaid, and homelessness will skyrocket in the coming months, globally.

It's too late to close the borders. Suck it and see, Sheilas. I'm here to live out my Mad Max fantasy.

Anyone who sell this as "just like the flu" is trying to blow smoke up your ass to protect their bottom line. Even with those ridiculously low CV19 numbers (you can't categorize someone who never got tested), that's a 5% mortality rate compared to .01% with the flu. As you get about 50 years of age, that mortality rate climbs steeply to three times that of those in their 40's, with those in the 70's dying at 8% and everyone 80+, 14.8%.

The fact that nobody under 9 has died likely points to a cytokine storm caused by previous interactions with other corona viruses.

I have no doubt this has the potential to be devastatingly tough on the elderly. The reason the elderly can reach such an age is largely based on them living during a —pandemic free— time in history......and access to fantastic medicine and health care.

However, keeping things in perspective regarding daily deaths, currently, coronavirus is mostly media driven hype mixed with the public’s overreaction.

I find it odd that the Texas UIL (University Interscholastic League) would cancel the State High School Basketball tournament in San Antonio, yet most public school districts have plans for schools to start back next week???

I don’t understand the logic of not sitting in the stands watching a game, but it’s okay for our kids to sit in class? Most school districts have canceled all sporting practices and extracurricular activities, citing travel as one of the reasons. However, it’s somehow permissible for students to ride the bus?

It’s probably a good thing school will be in session next week, it should help bring a bit of normalcy to these chaotic times.

Wow, that's a drastic measure to close all borders. I could imagine that only the border with Italy would be closed.

Over here we have more strict measures since yesterday. This is for the entire country, whereas the previous measures were only for the province Brabant. Universities are closed, but primary schools and high schools are still open, which basically nobody understands. The logic is that parents don't have to stay home for their kids, especially those that work in e.g. hospitals and police. But in all surrounding countries schools are closed. Classes at universities will continue by means of video conferencing etc.
All gatherings with 100 or more people are to be avoided. Many musea and theaters are closed.

Edit:
Borders are still open, but at the border with Germany the German police is randomly checking people.

But note that you can already have the virus without noticing it. This takes a couple of days. And if you have it, you can already spread by e.g. coughing or sneezing. At least that's what I understood.
