Just heard the 2 new songs
 

"Mars" and "No Way"

If these appear (hope hope hope) on the new album, or are any indication of its general sound/feel, I'm thinking it's gonna be heavier take on Rather Ripped...

It may also be SY's best album in years.

Thoughts?

Mars sounds good, I'm not sure how I feel about the other..

^they both sound shitty to me, but i'm sure they'll turn out really good.

so I'm the opposite, it's maybe because I'm hungry for new sonic boom.
rather ripped was up to 3 years ago. mars sound like present confusion is sex, no way is more like rather ripped song, but hey, I still love thurstons songs.

Mars actually reminds me of an old Mudhoney song at times...

these songs need to go through the sonic nurse post-production, and then they'll be completely amazing

Yeah, I agree, that would be fantastic. Of course a lot of that production was owed to Jim O' Rourke, but I still hope they do that much careful layering on the new record.

The songs are good first sign. They sound like good new Sonic Youth songs and they rock a bit more than a lot of Rather Ripped.

I don't like No Way that much, I hope it'll turn better on the record. I don't know, it sounds too much like your average Thurston Rock Song to me. And I must admit I'd like to hear something else than average Thurston Rock Songs.

My bf and I were writing songs that turned out sounding as if we were in outer-space. So, we got into the idea of writing an album about a space excursion, influenced by a low-budget 1960's movie we saw once, that had topless women dancing around some guy's backyard that was supposed to be the moon.

When I heard Mars, it reminded me very much of what we were unintentionaly going for.
