yr coming across as sort of a "Been there, done that" hipster. I've been a fan since Transmissions came out. Whatever that counts for. Not that there's any reason that somebody can't stumle upon the band TODAY and be "allowed" to be a "real fan."

Full of what? I've never heard the man be any more pretentious than, say, Sonic Youth. Is it because he wears a nice suit?

noisereductions 04.09.2009 12:26 PM

Y'know, Wayne comes across as one of the nicest people ever. But even if that's not true, I dont even understand it being the focus of this thread. I mean, who gives a crap what a musician is like in real life? Kurdt would've been a dick to you when he was on heroin (and maybe even when he wasn't) but how does that relate in the slightest to what a great songwriter or performer he was? I didnt start this thread to ask, "hey! Who would like Wayne Coyne to be your kids' Godfather?" I started it to be like "hey! Didn't this band record an awesome song?"

atsonicpark 04.09.2009 12:30 PM

Tons of musicians are assholes. I had to learn a long time ago to disconnect the people from the music they create. Otherwise, I wouldn't listen to some much awesome hate metal.

PAULYBEE2656 04.09.2009 12:31 PM

nr.- real fans dont dismiss anything previous to soft bulletin as being non existent...and i have had many arguements to that point.. and sorry for being there a while ago when there was about 50 of us watching the flaming lips on a tuesday night in dublin and being blown away by them....jesus.... im 34 years old....and i cant do anything about that....you kids are a bit stroppy today arent we?

and mr bradley..... just an opinion, anything ive seen him being interviewed he comes accross as a guy who doent appeal to me..thats all... jesus...sorry guys.....

war at the mystics is so wonderful......im off to play with my bubble machine again......

ive been away from this board for a few days and it appears that my sense of humour has been washed away by the tides of time..... i will remain indignant.... as i was when i saw the first can concert.....do, do do do do do....do

im losing my edge..................

actually, this is a sentiment shared by just about everybody I know that were fans, "back in the day".

a band's decline does not translate into it's prior fans becoming "hipsters". if anything, it's the "hipsters" that tend to follow what's become "fashionable" vs. what's worthwhile listening to. note: if I hear the term "industry darlings" one more time, I might reboot.

when you (and by you, I mean, a band) find a way to completely alienate yr original fan-base, it's time to reassess yr art. then again, lots of people place higher importance on money than I do.

>>>insert rampant shrugging here<<<

its the focus?????? didnt think it was.....

who gives a shit..... i give a shit when i come accorss these people and say hi, i dont want them to be a dick to me same way i wouldnt be a dick to them..... (true, ive never met coyne but met friedman...he was damn cool) and no it doesnt relate to how good a singer/songwriter he is.was...... it relates to the type of person he was/is....

and as for the last sentence in your post...man, i take my off the cuff, light hearted comment back..... fucking hell.....i didnt think this mountain would come out of that molehill....... its all ok, we are all in this together like pepsi and shirlie....

maybe im in too good a mood to post here today...

noisereductions 04.09.2009 12:37 PM

but that's what I'm saying. I'm almost 30. I "was there back in the day" too. Except I'm not a prick about it. And if someone discovers them today, and likes them I'm not gonna tell them they're not "real fans" just because they weren't born as early as I was.

atsonicpark 04.09.2009 12:37 PM

Wayne comes off as a crotchety old acid head/protools nerd who likes to fuck small rodents. Seems decent enough though.

how exactly would you feel if you knew somebody who was nice, but then circumstances/time morphed them into something completely different?

due to a false front, everybody still thinks that they are still made of sunshine, but you know better.

you might find yrself feeling somewhat cheated / angry / sad. you might even find yrself ranting about it on the internet.

to answer yr last question in the above quote, I would say "someone who knows them in real life".

atsonicpark 04.09.2009 12:52 PM

10 years ago I farted, and my farts stank. Nowadays, my farts still stink. You can't smell them over the internet, though.

Just trust me.

Shitting-my-pants, diarhea-style hardcore FARTS.
