Your Summer 2009 Soundtrack

Is there gonna be an album or are there going to be albums that will make up the soundtrack to your summer days this year?

1973 it was Steely Dan's Pretzel Logic.

I remember back in 1978, ah yes, Some Girls was in the air everywhere. Miss You, Beast of Burden. It carried me through those blissful months.

This summer, I think for me it's going to be the Beasties. I am totally blissing out on Paul's Boutique and Check Your Head right now. I can see myself listening to these of many a summer evening ahead. They have a real chillin' feel to them, especially Check Your Head.

So how about you all?

Probably the war on drugs - wagonwheel blues or Harappian Night Recordings - The Glorious Gongs Of Hainuwele

The Rolling......

Eat Skull's 'Wild and Inside' is going to be my summer album, as well as the Onna single reissued by Holy Mountain.

I've been listening a lot to Graham Lambkin's 'Salmon Run', so I guess that will be another one. Driphouse's 'Sewer Mist' is also one that I can see myself listening to regularly this summer. Also the 8th volume of the compilation series 'The World is Lousy With Ideas'.

last summer was pixies, pixies, pixies. particularly doolittle and come on pilgrim. the summer before that? talking heads. summer oh nine... i won't know 'till it gets here.

there's always more musical discoveries in summertime, too. fantastic.

Nice choices, Porkie.

& thank you for not going with the cheap Rolling Stones joke.

I'm hoping, various dull things permitting, that I will listen to my own debut solo record too much this summer.

Otherwise, it's a summer of Happy Hardcore and Schnittke ahead.

I don't feel bad that I don't own any current music. I don't.

Depending on 'things', I'm hoping that it will be free to UK residents and the cost of postage for non-UKians. More info to follow.

So as an aside, to defray some new LP purchases, today I bring a stack of things in to trade at the record store. They're mostly duplicates in my collection, like CDs I've replaced with LP copies, that kind of thing, plus a few things I never listen to and don't like.

Anyway, the owner isn't there today and the clerk can't buy these things from me, but he assures me the manager will be very interested in everything I've brought in, so come back tomorrow. He starts going through the CD stack and lets out a whistle. He's stopped at my Catherine Wheel Chrome CD. He looks at me like, you're selling this?

So I'm thinking, fuck me, is this a keeper?

What do you think?

Better_Than_You 05.10.2009 05:51 PM

pass it down to your childrens children and see how it fares on antiques roadshow.

gmku 05.10.2009 05:53 PM

Please. I need a thoughtful answer to this.
