I tried the brush with 1.5, but it was about the same. I'll upload another picture with my actual camera later. (To my eye, the distance between the bottom of the cartridge and vinyl is the thickness of sheet of paper, maybe two.) I'm just concerned because with a different record (Dino Jr RI) it actually dragged once or twice.

And you can't make any adjustments to the tonearm height?

No, the tone arm assembly is solid. It has anti-skate and pressure, but no height. And I say "low-mass" because it's not the "3-5 grams" that a lot of stuff is.

I really don't want/need to spend more than $200 for a turntable for the foreseeable future, so I've been looking at the AT LP120 and it seems to have everything I now know I need.

That would be a great choice. But... do you have a reputable vintage stereo place nearby? For $200 you could get a table from the 70s that would be, like, 10 times better than anything new being made today for that price.

Sonic Youth 37 03.30.2012 07:38 PM

I'm not sure. I know of one or two places that have a small amount of vintage equipment, but it's mostly receivers.

If I knew how to properly pack and ship a table, I'd help you out by sending you one of mine. I have one or two I could stand to give up for under $100 plus shipping. Especially for an SY friend in need.

Sonic Youth 37 03.30.2012 07:44 PM

I'm heading out for the night, but I'll PM you about that tomorrow.

Okay, man. Take care.

$35 to repair the Large Advent. The doctor threw in two nifty little fuse systems (3 amp fuses) to attach to the positive speaker wires, to help prevent this from happening again. Maybe these babies will be good for another 40 years.

That one looks nice. Any other suggestions (for turntables) in this pricerange? Please tell me, because I want to upgrade my stereo.

Do you consider me also a friend? I reside in Austria.
