My niece has broken her leg

My poor niece broke her ankle in two places, and her leg once, at the weekend, about five seconds after her first time of getting on the ice for her first time at an skating rink.

Any kind and supportive words to show her will be hugely appreciated (and will probably earn you reputation points!).

My friend broke his ankle today, and it looked intensely painful. He however only broke it in one place so your niece wins. My sympathy to her.

That's rough jack.

jon boy 03.23.2006 04:35 AM

just give her lots of attention and little gifts. make her laugh and all that kind of stuff. i know how you feel its awful when your neice or nephew are sick.

screamingskull 03.23.2006 04:41 AM

i broke my foot skiing last year. breaking bones sucks.

Poor thing.

To niece:
Make your uncle work his butt off and wait on you hand and foot. It's all he's good for. He told me personally that he was entirely at your disposal, and that if you got better quickly, he'd buy you a pony named Sparkles.

Seriously, I hope she gets well soon. It's terrible being cooped up when you're a kid (though I'd gladly trade places with her).

I've got 30 years old friends who never gave skating a try. They haven't broken a leg for they haven't tried to have some fun. I don't envy them and try to get them to do something that can get them some joy. It's kinda hard.

I hope your niece will soon get her revenge on the ice so that - once her natural apprehension overcome - she can enjoy this bit of life.

Cheers, Miss!

Look after her and give her my regards.

Also, remind her that snow and ice can be fun and nice:

i have only ventured ice skating twice as i have no sense of balance. but it was at an ice skating rink that you had to skate uphill!

Inhuman 03.24.2006 08:02 AM

Sorry to hear :(. Things always go bad on the ice... I got elbowed in the lip yesterday in hockey and it's the size uf a walnut!

Glice 03.24.2006 08:05 AM

I'm also a nephew. I want a horse named sparkles. Someone be my surrogate uncle and give me a horse called sparkles.

Its a heavy thing to break a bone. Something you depend on without thinking about it suddenly goes snap. Tell her she'll be ok that someone will be taking care of everything and that for summer she'll be able to swim. Buy her books and a guitar.

schizophrenicroom 03.24.2006 09:12 AM

Ouch! I hope it heals fast.

ahhh man, i've got a little niece (7) and a nephew (8) and they are like the center of my universe, i'd do anything for them, the other weekend my brother (their father) was going over from Ireland to the UK to see a Manchester United football match and my nephew (who is Man Utd nutz!) was too sick to go so he let his little sister take his place, i was so proud of him cuz he didnt make a fuss at all, he just knew himself that he was too sick to go and she brought him back loads of pressies and Man Utd merchandise and stuff. I know what your feeling though man, you feel so helpless and your kinda going "why the fuck is this happening to my niece?" give her shitloads of attention and make a really really big deal of her for the next few days.... and tell her a load of your Sonic Buddies were asking after her..

Glice, I would bequeath Sparkles to you, but another, less fortunate nephew has won him.

All that's left is Doris, a cross-dressing donkey with colitis. But she's very affectionate.

I finally got to show my niece this thread at the weekend, and she was chuffed to bits to get messages from the sonic family.

Thanks everyone.

Hip Priest 04.05.2006 08:00 AM

Thanks for the update. Hope she's doing well.
