Man, I need to relisten to that album. Always dug it, but never given it the full attention it needs. Seriously fucking pissed about not having my turntable at uni right now...

ps, if you like El-P as a producer (duh) then you should check out the album he recorded with The Blue Series Continuum. If you don't know them, they are a jazz ensemble on Thirsty Ear Recordings. Featuring (amongst others) Matthew Parker on keys, William Parker on bass, and (the far too never mentioned) Guilermo E Brown on drums!

I heard about that, but was a bit put off by the fact that the Beans album with Parker and Hamid Drake disappointed me a bit. I'm a MASSIVE Parker fan, ever since he put on one of the best gigs I've ever seen back when I was just first getting into jazz. It was a solo gig, like an 'evening with William Parker' vibe, with like 40 people in the audience, maybe 10 feet or less from him, and it changed my life. I will check out the EL-P blue series release though, seeing as it's basically El-P taking the place of David S. Ware in the David S. Ware quartet, and the David S. Ware quartet are BADASS. Does he actually rap on it?

nope. No rapping. I generally don't like vocals with my jazz. Once in a while... but... anyway, El-P basically serves as producer. you NEED NEED NEED to get OPTOMETRY by DJ Spooky & The Blue Series Continuum. That's definitely my favorite Blue Series album, and Matthew Shipp's keys on that will knock the shiz outta yr azz.

now I can't remember if Wm. Parker is on the El-P one or not. It's probably Matthew Shipp also. It's tough to keep the Blue Series Continuum straight, as they're basically a loose collective of Thirsty Ear dudes.

I love the simplicity of the video for Deep Space 9mm.

Had a nice chat and some beers with him at a gig in Belgium a couple of years back.
He's a very shy and quiet character.

Well that's basically a synonym for 'badasses', so I'm interested.

I have no reservations about saying that this one of the top 10 records ever recorded, across all genres. It is up there with like Daydream Nation, White Light/White Heat, or Blonde on Blonde, or Kind Of Blue, or maybe a few others, as something which it fucking EMBEDDED IN MY HEART! Also when its past midnight, you have an exam the next day, and haven't revised, it is PERFECT!
