Major win as usual.

Jean Sibelius - Symphony No. 1 & Symphony No. 2

From what I heard today, I prefer Sibelius over Liszt. Looking forward to listening to the other 5 Symphonies

J.S. Bach - disc 1 of his complete organ music
Only 14 other discs to go, I doubt I'll be able to listen to it today. So far I'm tempted to dish Bach in favour of Claire M. Singer, but I'll plough through anyway

Same artist, different project

Sibelius is one of my faves,

Going all classical on us, eh? I'm not the most knowledgeable cat when it comes to classical music, but I love...

..."included with her self-titled debut album as an exclusive bonus CD for the Rough Trade store":

01 - Maurice Ravel: Daphnis Et Chloé - Première Partie: Lent (9:16)

03 - Claude Debussy: La Mer - 1. De L'aube À Midi Sur La Mer (8:45)
04 - Carlo Gesualdo: O Vos Omnes (3:38)
05 - Olivier Messiaen: Quatuor Pour La Fin Du Temps - 5. Louange À L'éternité De Jésus (8:09)

so goddamn beautiful

The vinyl version "ends" in a silent locked groove, but if you lift the needle and drop it again past that point there's a hidden track, "Up And Gone". It's also included in a special/limited/import (or something) CD edition of the album. Now, perhaps the song is in shitty streaming services as well, in which case I just wasted a few precious minutes of my life.

In any event, The Greatest is a very good album, but in no way is a match for You Are Free, Chan Marshall's absolute peak thus far.

I think I said this already in the Albums Bought thread, that it's my new year's resolution to listen to more classical music. First of all out of curiosity and to broaden my horizons so to speak. But also because my ears are fucked so that I can't listen to loud (rock) music anymore for longer periods.

Now playing, not classical but definitely classic:
A live Cure set from 1998 where Robert is drunk as a skunk. Amazing that they still managed to finish the set

I'm in a Cure mood today

I used to have this on laser disc back when we (= my parents) still had a laser disc player in the late eighties. This is shot in Orange, France. Must be one of the most marvellous concert venues on Earth

Why the Cure mood? Oddly enough Lee's new song gave me a sudden urge to hear Six Different Ways over and over and over again.

Alright, LOOK, the Curelovefest you guys have going needs to fucking stop. Goth-lite (well, "goth" alone is bad enough), seriously mediocre lyrics, a complete embarrassment when they went "psychedelic pop", all ran by a guy who looks like he went trick-or-treating over thirty years ago and got lost on his way home. As Morrissey said (way before he himself became an embarrassment), "The Cure: a new dimension to the word 'crap'".

I know several of the artists I love (J Mascis, Britt Daniel, Cowboy Junkies) love The Cure, but what can I tell ya: they're wrong.

Ka-Knives - Weasel

You're on a rant about The Cure but like the Cowboy Junkies? What's wrong with you?
