There was 5cm of snow here... not enough to stay off.

Rob Instigator 01.06.2010 11:49 AM

big bootay is great for keeping warm. Ice T is never cold.

I went for a ramble through the local forest today. In some places the snow was over a foot deep. The landscape did look breathtaking under all that snow. It felt like I was in Lapland.

the chip shop a few doors from me had to close because, according to a sign on its door, '2 cold 2 open'.

The Deep Blue chip shop in my town was open. In fact I went straight there after my ramble for fish cake and chips. :)

demonrail666 01.06.2010 12:39 PM

i just don't understand how a chip shop can be '2 cold 2 open'. I'd have thought it'd be a sight warmer than most other shops, least of all the sweet shop next door, which managed to open as normal.

floatingslowly 01.06.2010 12:43 PM

you should be careful. people that walk through the woods get raped.

Glice 01.06.2010 12:44 PM

Mrs Wah on our road seems to be doing a good business in chips.

In fact, fuck it. Time for a new thread.

demonrail666 01.06.2010 12:48 PM

i couldn't believe it, i went out with the plan of getting a couple of saveloys and some chips and returned home armed only with a supersize twix and a packet of McCoys. Hardly the same.

The beauty of snowy days is, it highlights who employs the laziest workers in town, and who employs the hardest workers. Half of the town's stores were closed with signs on their front windows saying: "Closed due to staff shortages as a result of the adverse weather conditions", yet the remaining half were all open as normal.

You could argue that those jobs with the highest pay cause the greatest absence. Usually, the higher the pay, the more likely they are to have a car/ live far away, the harder it is to get to work.

I think it depends on where people have to travel from rather than whether they can be bothered.

The local Wimpy was closed, and I know for a fact the staff all live locally. The manager just lives around the corner from me!

demonrail666 01.06.2010 01:15 PM

would you be motivated to walk through a foot of snow to earn a pittance serving brown derby's to bearded old women?

floatingslowly 01.06.2010 01:34 PM

if my wife can walk to the bar during The Greatest Snowstorm Ever Seen, then I see no reason why the Whimpy staff can't get out to make hamburgers (or whatever the hell it is they do there).

Yeah, I mean McDonald's was trading as normal today. Boy, are the staff in Wimpy going to get it when it's open again.

Rob Instigator 01.06.2010 01:47 PM

what is a saveloy?

demonrail666 01.06.2010 01:59 PM

that's a good question

knox 01.06.2010 02:01 PM
