The Sorceror's Stone and The Chamber of Secrets, like the books they're based on are kids' movies, but for kids' movies (and kids' books) they're pretty good.
The Prisoner of Azekban was very artfully done and was probably the first "mature" Potter film. With The Goblet of Fire, it's like they told the director, "OK, this story's gonna be a bit darker than the first 3", and he took that idea and RAN. Overly grimy palette, dreary soundtrack, and less 'fun" overall. You gotta admit the Weird Sisters rocked, though... I really liked Order of the Phoenix. The lady who played Umbridge was really good, the twins' escape from Hogwarts was hilarious, and I liked the nod to Citizen Kane with the giant poster of Cornellius Fudge in the Ministry of Magic. However, while I didn't think it was a bad movie, I found myself unentertained by The Half Blood Prince. I dunno; maybe I'm just sick of the franchise by now. I'll definitely watch both parts of The Deathly Hallows, but I don't know if I'll make it a point to see them in the theater. I'll also probably be glad the whole thing's finally over. |
Haven't seen Half-Blood Prince yet. I have no idea how they could make it good though. That book was kind of weird from a narrative perspective. It's not really like the rest.
But I think you're mostly right about the rest. The first two were really good kids pictures, got the style down pat and was just really delightful to the eye and full of some pretty cool ideas. And I'd just quote you about prisoner, that's the exact way to put it. But with Goblet on, I dunno. Maybe it was the haircuts or something, that movie just feels off. Goblet of Fire is the second best book in the series I think, and the movie I dunno, just didn't really convey it very well. Maybe for the reasons you said. But the severity of that last act doesn't come through at all I think. In the book it was really intense, in the movie, uh...alright. Phoenix I don't really remember to be honest, guess I'll have to watch it again. I remember the last act being really underwhelming though. I don't know what the hell they're going to do for Deathly Hallows. That first movie is going to be so boring. Who knows how they'll make it interesting. Second half will be out of control though. |

there's a VSnares song that samples THE OTHERS, and I find Nicole Kidman's dialogue horrifying in it.

I've never read the books only seen the movies and I thought that The Half Blood Prince was the best. It didn't drag like some of the others and it set up the final chapters very well I thought.

![]() ^ Watched it on shrooms last night - what a trip! ![]() ^ Just picked up, and started the 1st season. Pleasantly surprised with this series so far despite it having absolutely nothing to do with Jason Voorhees or Camp Crystal Lake. |
I dunno, I like Goblet of Fire. Even if it does have future fairy Edward Cullen in it. At least he dies

I Married a Strange Person - 10/10
One of the most clever and brilliant and insane animated features ever. Bill Plympton is a GENIUS. |
I gotta get the F13 series.

![]() Directed, and produced by the founders of my film school. Sadly, I can't say that I necessarily liked this one. The plot was sloppy, the editing was haphazard, and worst of all - it was boring. A few nice shots, decent creature effects, and obvious attention paid to color, and art direction save this from being a complete waste of time. As do lead roles from Nightmare on Elm Street's John Saxon, "Flyboy" from Dawn of the Dead, and a surprise cameo from Ron Asheton as a killer nun. Nevertheless, the end results are highly forgettable. 4/10 |
![]() 9.5/10 possibly his best after "a woman under the influence" and "faces." |
![]() probably the 3rd time I"ve seen it, but didn't remember that it was horrible. ![]() at least interesting. |
![]() 7.5/10 Time hasn't been too kind to this movie, but it holds up well enough, and the actors all do a great job. |
![]() 1/10 fucking boring pretentious piece of shit. |

Yeah, evil dead 2 is the best. 11/10.

I like the first the best, personally. But I can see people liking the 2nd the best. It's a preference thing. They're both brilliant.
