so they should be willing to pay for it, fighting for something important is nice, but when you bring people up thinking sneakers and cellphones are the most important thing in the world, well the poor kids are going to find a way to party and shop eventually

especially when other people are walking around in front of you with these phones, clothes, holidays and shoes in front of you every day and giving you that patronising/ifeelsorryforyou look (not saying that's the case).

i understand this woman's frustration. this could be something important. she thinks this could have turned out to be a good opportunity to deal with some issues. but now it's just giving people more room to look down on these kids. unfortunately, the average person doesn't bother with anything more than general assumptions - the future will be more water cannons.
