Everett True's Sonic Youth book,

which was supposed to be published on 4 September, has been delayed until some time in 2007, the publishers have said, as he's been busy working on a book about Nirvana.

Thanks for the info sonicl. I was wondering what happened to that book. Should have been released yesterday actually.

i love nirvana as much as the next person, but do we really need another book about them that will probably offer nothing new?

screamingskull 09.05.2006 02:10 PM

i agree we really dont need another nirvana book.

lovesonicevol 09.05.2006 02:15 PM

how is Confusion Is Next, the book that is?

Andrés 09.05.2006 05:05 PM

come on, Everett is one of the few people who can write a book about Nirvana without making up stories

Cantankerous 09.05.2006 05:06 PM

spew.

ni'k 09.05.2006 09:00 PM

my guess is that this book will probably be more about everett than nirvana, he's one of the best music journalists today, and his plan b mag is great, but he's all about the everett.

static-harmony 09.05.2006 09:08 PM

Yeah I agree we don't need another Nirvana book, unless it uncovers the truth that Courtney did kill him, with actual evidence and how she did it, and all. Now I want that Sonic Youth book.

It's alright. The author does a good job talking about the motivations behind the different songs and albums. It leaves a lot of personal stuff about the band members out entirely though. There's no mention of Kim and Thurston's wedding and stuff like that. Also, the author throws about 8 million names at you of people that were around during SY's early days in New York and stuff. That gets pretty tedious. Overall though, I enjoyed it.

Agree. I never understood why the band members didn't like it.

Yeah, Confusion is Next is a pretty good read... As much information I've absorbed about Sonic Youth since becoming a fan, I think a lot of my base knowledge about the history of the band comes from that book.

PAULYBEE2656 09.12.2006 03:23 AM

i havent heard everett trues name mentioned in ages!

greenlight 09.12.2006 05:51 AM

well, even if later, but hopefully it'll be easily getable in the music shops and not only on the net.

I always thought that was "Our Band Could Be Your Life" they didn't like. But whatever.

I'm excited to read this. The only parts of Confusion Is Next that I've read are the pages on Amazon.

Cantankerous 09.12.2006 09:37 PM

is he still writing for the melody maker?

sonicl 09.13.2006 03:16 AM

He runs "Plan B" mag, which I think someone posted a thread about the other day. It's an okay mag, but someone I used to know who is one of only two people in the world who I actively hate writes for it occasionally, and therefore I don't like it.

doctor dan 09.14.2006 06:57 AM

is he still writing for the melody maker? im pretty sure that mag has folded...
