Politics are an exercise in frustration, but voting beats moaning on the internet.

yes, especially if you do both. even more if you participate beyond the ballot box (i do). i was referring to suchfriends' monarchist preachings. selassie is dead and will stay dead.

--

here we have a tight senate race but it should stay blue (knock on wood). marijuana decriminalization is up for vote in the 2 most populous counties--slow progress better than none.

SuchFriendsAreDangerous 11.04.2014 10:33 AM

I wonder who wins "best hair" and who will be Homecoming Queen??

evollove 11.04.2014 10:42 AM

My rep sucks. But there was no opponent! Democrats couldn't get enough shit together to even fucking run someone.

So however much one may feel "the parties are just the same," I can tell you it really does suck to look at a ballot, see a name you dislike, and see absolutely no other candidate to vote for. Should've written in myself.

I went third party whenever possible. Green, Libertarian, whatever. I swear I would've voted for a tea party candidate if there was one.

SuchFriendsAreDangerous 11.04.2014 10:53 AM

Vote for yourself

!@#$%! 11.04.2014 10:59 AM

vote for selassie's coffin

teabagger cuban agent by way of canada rafael cruz wants to be the next senate majority leader

this is fucking scarier than "the dead zone"

SuchFriendsAreDangerous 11.04.2014 11:09 AM

i don't have such grandiose delusions. you're projecting your own cognitive limitations onto my internet persona.

tesla69 11.04.2014 11:26 AM

Voted beforework this morning. I voted no for all the ballot measures. 2 billion in bonds for children's internet access.

SuchFriendsAreDangerous 11.04.2014 12:26 PM

If you.dont.believe.you can.stop.it.why vote?

it's not about the lone individual, but the social aggregate. is it really that hard to understand? while i alone cannot change the world (a childish dream), i choose to show up and be counted, however imperfectly.

in a way you're being counted too-- political operators count on the self-disenfranchised to win elections by mobilizing radicalized minorities. e.g., the mormons getting prop 8 passed in california in spite of the liberal social climate in your state towards lgbt rights, or voter ID laws (e.g. Kansas, Tennessee) to combat a non-existent, media-manufactured voter fraud epidemic.

I like how you tried to reverse psychology and blame the boycott vote for the reason our quasidemocracy fails. Nope. Elections themselves are.rigged, flawed, and often fraudulent. Gerrymandering, "chad"s and other disqualifying factors, as well as just outright ignorong the votes nullifies all possibilities of effextive change hence boycotting. Four presidents have been elected despite losing popular vote and if folks were to even go through a highschool civics level exploration of the electoral college reveals its all smoke and mirrors. The referendum process is bought and sold by special interest, upwards of 70% of legislative is verbatim written by lobbyists.. and y'll honestly want to cast your lot with all that nonsense to.what, pretend your empowered when in actuality your only further empowering the corruption.. when you play a rigged game you are by ontology supporting the rigging. Fuck that. Vote for yourself. Boycott

Yeah, right, let's not even try. Party til the boat goes down. Meanwhile, all of the GOP rednecks and tea partiers are organized and motivated. But those who oppose them can't be bothered to get off their asses to vote, much less be organized and active at other times. It's easier just to hang out at the coffee house or brewpub and posture. Yes, there are a lot of problems in the system. But voting for the lesser of evils is a valid concept and is much better than doing nothing.

But hey, don't let me influence you. Do nothing and let the bad guys win by default. The Mitch McConnells and John Boehners of the world thank you!

You Must Spread Some Votes Around Before Giving Them To tesla69 Again!

i didn't use "reverse psychology" and you didn't like my answer. the current system has many flaws-- i don't blame all of them on the so-call "boycott vote" (whatever that means) but quitters are definitely a factor in the rule of special interests and wackos.

they are not perfect. humans didin't evolve in enormous supertribes, and this cultural adaptation to demographic explosion is what we've managed to kludge together so far. it will continue to evolve as long as people exist & keep trying.

mature people do the best they can with whatever they have and learn to accept that having it all is a childish dream and that social change is the work of ages.

translation: "since i can't be king of the game i'm taking my toys with me". lololol. it's all about the self with you, isn't it? ha ha ha. such narcissism!

you live in a city with millions of people in a state that is in itself one of the largest economies in the world. no matter how special you try to paint yourself you're still a tiny speck. you can choose to join other tiny specks or you can choose to float alone but your wishes are not everybody else's command.

Teach a man to fish and he'll still vote for the guy that gives him a fish.
