Another Rather Ripped thread

just listened to RR and you know what? I enjoyed it! Its actually pretty good. Lots of nice melodies and guitar tones. Pink Stream, Jams, Reena, Turquoise Boy, Rats loads of good tunes

I take it back, not bad at all

noisereductions 07.15.2008 02:51 PM

Never understood the hate. I thought it was great on first liste. Still do. It's Sonic Pop, no doubt; but so was DIRTY and so was GOO. Why not end the DGC years in the same fashion we began it? Maybe close out the major-label-sound Trilogy? See how it would sound after all these years?

Rob Instigator 07.15.2008 03:41 PM

listening to Dirty on headphones I am struck at how NOISY it is compared with how I felt about it when it came out.

Youth Against Fascism, especially, the noise interplay betwene the right channel and the left channel on top of kim;s bass, is fucking awesome.

Cantankerous 07.15.2008 03:46 PM

ffs

SHUT UP ABOUT RR.

habib, merge all this bullshit please

atsonicpark 07.15.2008 03:59 PM

rather ripped sucks :(

HECKLER SPRAY 07.15.2008 04:03 PM

Their weakest album, in my opinion. Not completly bad or unlistenable, but... well, I was really disappointed when it came out.

Rob Instigator 07.15.2008 04:04 PM

it was summer fun

ejst&ns is their weakest album by a loooong shot

HECKLER SPRAY 07.15.2008 04:05 PM

The first time I finished listening to it, I was like : "that's all ? Where is the noise ? Oh, shit..."

Yeah, I don't like EJSTANS very much, but at least the guitars don't sound as bland as they do on RR...

Rob Instigator 07.15.2008 04:27 PM

but we can all agree that the single greatst sonic youth recording is Macbeth on the ciccone youth album right?

deflinus 07.15.2008 04:28 PM

i dont understand why people hate rather ripped. it could of been SO MUCH worse. and all of those songs are better than any song any of us will ever write..

Rob Instigator 07.15.2008 04:32 PM

I enjoy the fuck out of rather ripped. I woudl rather listen to rather ripped anyday than Murray street, which I like, but which brings me down and puts me in a foul depressed mood.

HECKLER SPRAY 07.15.2008 04:35 PM

I don't hate it, but compared to the rest of their discography, it sounds like it has been produced by Nigel Godrich... (I was about to say Rick Rubin, but it 's too inflated maybe.)

Derek 07.15.2008 05:42 PM

RR is nice.

noisereductions 07.15.2008 05:51 PM

"Macbeth" IS awesome...

Yeas, but that's about as positive as it's possible to be about it.

True true. Everything sounds so heavy on that album. I listened to Dirty and then went and listened to Daydream and it sounds like they were playing on toy guitars

viewtiful_alan 07.15.2008 10:31 PM

Rather Ripped is great.
I would say more but I feel like I'd waste finger energy... :/

acousticrock87 07.15.2008 10:51 PM

Who cares about RR. I wanna know why EJSTNS gets so much flak. This is an outrage.

I have half-a-mind to start a thread about that. But I won't because I don't really care that much.

viewtiful_alan 07.15.2008 10:59 PM

Jet set just... I don't know... it doesn't ever quite click.
No Lee song either... for shame.
