Wait, what? Have you NOT listened to records like the DoggFather, The Game Is to be Sold Not To Be Told, The Last Meal, or The Blue Carpet Treatment? Those are fantastic records, and while NOTHING can compare to DoggieStyle, that shouldn't negate the value of 1994-2006 Snoop..

louder 10.18.2013 01:01 PM

those are good albums yeah, but not classics.

The Dogg Father is most certainly a die-hard classic, but I may be biased living in LA where that record was practically worshiped after "Murder Was the Case" and the Snoop trial.

Dre is credited as Doggystyle's sole producer, but Ain't No Fun for instance was actually produced by Warren G and Daz Dillinger.

Those are the examples as to why people were so pissed at Dre. He was involved in the same kind of shit that fucked out the D.O.C. Fuck Dre.

I think 2001 is basically a terrible album. I feel like Aftermath is a better follow-up to The Chronic.

Agreed. It was really just an EP and a lot of overhyped filler, but admittedly those three Singles were fucking HITS. And that beat? Fuck. As much as I can't stand fucking DMX, like at ALL, this is one of the best Tupac remixes of all time!!

h8kurdt 10.20.2013 04:02 AM

You're all mad. 2001 is a great album. For me anyway.

Severian 10.20.2013 12:19 PM

2001 is awful. It's an awful awful shameful dragging through the dirt of the Chronic name. No thank you.

louder 10.20.2013 02:52 PM

Just finally got my hands on a hard copy of My Name is My Name.

Also bought cruel summer just because.

Oh, and I bought seven albums the other day. Can't remember what. I've been binging pretty hard.

OH MY GOD LOUDER, something terrine has happened!

Just got back from dinner with the lady and her sister, and the topic of rap music came up. I had to defend more than one artist, but mostly KANYE, who this girl (the sister) says does not write his own lyrics!!!

I asked where she heard that, and said that Kanye may swipe a line or two, but that he wrote, produced, and wrote beats for every albu he's ever done up to Yeezus, and many tracks for other artists.

She dismissed me with such confidence and certainty that I actually got a little scared, and quickly googled the subject on my phone.

Is it true? How could it be? "Consequence admits to writing lyrics for Kanye West" stood out as a headline.

Please tell me it isn't so! I know I was late to the party, and have been too busy dropping out of graduate school, working my ass off, and being bitter to pay much attention to what anybody other than you lot have to say about hip hop, so I apologize if I'm way behind, but Inneed this cleared up for me ASAP!

Someone weigh in. I would really love to subtly rub this in her face later, so please help!

louder 10.23.2013 11:02 PM

it's true that sometimes Kanye gets help from others with a few lines.

i know that Rhymefest co-wrote Jesus Walks, Consequence probably co-wrote Champion and Lupe helped him with Black Skinhead.

"I didn't write my raps down for my first four albums - like all, I did it from the head straight to the booth," he said. "But on this last album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, I wrote it because I really put myself in the zone that my life was dependent on the success of this album. With that being the case, I said, 'You know what? No matter what anybody says about me, I can write something that can make someone that hates me the most have to really respect or love the song.' So even a song like 'Power,' I spent 5,000 hours writing it, and it's really the psychology behind the lyrics; it's not just blatantly, 'I've got all the powers' - [it's] 'No one man should have all that power.' It's word[ed] it in a really sensitive way that opens it up for everyone."

also on Barry Bonds he said:

"I don't need writers, I might bounce ideas
But only I could come up with some shit like this"
