The Whitehouse appreciation / loathing thread

Anyone else here a fan of Messrs Bennett and Best, or can't you stand them? As my friends wearily know, I can waffle on for ages about Whitehouse if prompted. Their current album ("Racket") is another work of excellence. So what say you?

sonicl 07.06.2007 03:54 AM

I've managed to live forty years without every having heard anything by Whitehouse. What I've heard about them has always ben enough to put me off trying.

pbradley 07.06.2007 03:59 AM

I'm a big fan of the White House. God save the union!

demonrail666 07.06.2007 04:31 AM

Melly wants to burn me some Whitehouse, I say 'nooo, nooo, nooo'

Toilet & Bowels 07.06.2007 06:50 AM

i've seen them twice and they were fantastic both times, i saw consumer electronics recently and they were damned good too. i've never heard their records though, i keep meaning too.

Onani Nic 07.06.2007 07:00 AM

I keep meaning to get Racket, it's damn expensive when converted to Australian $$$. Great band I think.

Everyneurotic 07.06.2007 10:14 AM

lately, i like sutcliff jügend better. whitehouse is too samey.

very important band and good, though.

tesla69 07.06.2007 10:28 AM

inrelentingly boring and dull and antilife.

Onani Nic 07.06.2007 09:24 PM

From the few tracks I've heard of Whitehouse related projects (ramleh, sutcliff jügend, consumer electronics) they sound as good, maybe better than whitehouse. Really need to track down some of their stuff.

HaydenAsche 07.06.2007 09:36 PM

Whitehouse is pretty fucking cool, man. Consumer Electronics is better, though.

demonrail666 07.06.2007 10:05 PM

in all seriousness, can you tell the difference between those bands?

HaydenAsche 07.06.2007 10:16 PM

Good point. Consumer Electronics are just more consistently interesting. Some Whitehouse stuff is pretty yawn-worthy.

Everyneurotic 07.06.2007 10:27 PM

ohh man, have you heard the new sutcliff album? they reinvent power electronics.

lowlife 07.07.2007 12:32 PM

Birth/Death Experience must have blown minds when it came out. I tend to lean towards their older material but haven't heard the new one yet.. The 'extreme' comps put out by Susan Lawly are amazing listens also.

Phlegmscope 07.07.2007 01:23 PM

I only have Twice is not enough, which I find good, but I'd imagine they've put out better stuff too.

I like the fact that these guys come across as ordinary looking middle aged blokes, but their musical output and imagery is horrifyingly offensive. adds a lot to the perversity level. yes!

Savage Clone 07.07.2007 01:27 PM

Bennett has worked with and given some nice exposure to my friend Dolores Dewberry. I like Whitehouse OK, but my fascination with them was relatively short-lived and ended about 13 years ago. I think a band like this needs to exist, but I'm not all that into listening to it anymore.

Glice 07.08.2007 12:13 PM

I have about 10 minutes every year and a half or so when Whitehouse are the single greatest thing ever. The rest of the time I just can't be arsed. Saw them in London a few years ago and I was bemused and bored.

Nope, it was one of their own shows... they played at Slimelight the night after, can't remember where the gig was, somewhere 'ackney ways.
