atsonicpark 12.30.2009 12:29 PM

great song, great video (even though it didn't really teach me anything I didn't already know how to do, it was interesting), thanks.

I'm not into the Prodigy but that video was quite interesting.

akprodr 12.30.2009 01:13 PM

Watching it makes me salivate.

Keeping It Simple 12.30.2009 02:33 PM

The video wasn't as controversial as the media made it out to be.

Glice 12.30.2009 02:44 PM

The right-wing media made it out to be controversial; I seem to remember the tree-huggers not giving a shit.

Ok, I don't actually know if that's true, but I thought I'd give your game a bash.

You've got it the wrong way round. It was the tree-huggers who made it out to be controversial. It was the right-wing press who didn't give a shit.

Glice 12.30.2009 03:55 PM

You've clearly been indoctinated with their right-wing bias. I expect you <syntax error: could not find undefined prejudice string> with your right-wing friends. Pseud.

It was a tree-hugger who told me it was losers like him who made it out to be controversial. Who am I to argue with a tree-hugger on dope?

Toilet & Bowels 12.30.2009 08:36 PM

i think it was PR people who told journalists it was controversial and because it only got shown on tv after midnight the only people who saw it were either the kind of people who wouldn't give a shit about the themes depticted therein, or they be the kind who would try and squeeze in a very fast wank in those pre-everyone-having-the-internet/cockumentaries-on-digital-tv-every-night times

jon boy 12.30.2009 08:59 PM

i remember the hype surrounding it and being very underwhelmed. i also remember disliking prodigy fans post smack my bitch up.

atsonicpark 12.31.2009 02:49 AM

classic video, classic song.

To think that the prodigy were ever a successful, mainstream act in America is really pretty fucking cool, and though it's not really what I reach for when it comes to electronic music, it did in fact turn a lot of people onto that stuff, so I can't hate it too much. It's actually a cool track, I don't mind it in the least.

Tokolosh 12.31.2009 05:13 AM

Interesting vid.
How does someone go about reverse engineering a track like this?
A lot of the samples shouldn't be a problem, but determining the speeds
and layers upon layers of effects goes beyond audio geekness.
Must've taken a while to work it out.

Derek 12.31.2009 05:51 AM

The acid synth is cool.

Eh, I don't think it'd be too difficult, as you said, since he knew the samples being used to begin with. Don't think it would've taken too long to figure out the effects, if you're familiar with production at all, since that Prodigy track is pretty simple and straightforward and repetetive and only has, what, 5 samples? Time stretching/pitch shifting/fucking with EQ are pretty basic, there was only one part of the video that wasn't obvious (something to have to do with using a grainulizer). Either way, it probably would've taken a few hours to deduce what was manipulated and how..

nowadays, though, with all the VST plugins/soft synths.. jesus. It'd be impossible in most cases. I mean, can you imagine someone reconstructing an Autechre track or something?

Tokolosh 12.31.2009 06:15 AM

But still! Even though it's a repetitive track, the tweaking must've been very tedious.

I don't think it would be possible to reconstruct most, if not all of Autechre's tracks.
They use Max/MSP (which you'd obviously need) + all the unique patches they've designed.
You would then have to arrange and connect everything in the right order and adjust the parameters.
A fucking nightmare!

Imagine Merzbow... :-)

atsonicpark 12.31.2009 06:41 AM

Merzbow might be difficult, but I just opened a .txt file as a .wav file in Goldwave and it sounds like every Masonna track ever made.. so who knows?
