I feel you lol. Speaking of.. last night The Game threatened to beat up Meek Mill (apparently for snitching): https://instagram.com/p/BKacdHOBv_M

And now he dropped a diss track titled "92 Bars": https://youtube.com/watch?v=GeedNjmiVZE

louder 09.16.2016 01:41 PM

Damn this track is hot. Game went in.

louder 09.16.2016 03:00 PM

Could be album promo as well. Not gonna lie Game has been making nice music, he deserves to have some buzz going on for him.

louder 09.16.2016 04:26 PM

Listening to "Faces" by Mac Miller now.. damn I slept on this tape. Last project I've heard from him was Watching Movies with the Sound Off.. need to catch up.

Agreed, I particularly like the past few records in the recent twelve month span, not necessarily his "best" work but definitely some good and fun shit. Really I think these are glorified mix-tapes BUT that isn't an important distinction as they remain indeed nice music

When D'Angelo was struggling to find inspiration during the final stages of making Voodoo, he spoke to Prince who gave him a great advice: "do not think - just create", which ultimately helped him finish the album.

That's obviously what Game has been doing; just creating a lot without thinking about it too much, and I think that's a great mindset to have for an artist. Not everyone is a "take 4 years to work on an album" perfectionist type.

was listening to Black On Both Sides today and it always kills me how awesome "May-December" is as a closer. It's basically this faux soul jazz piece. And it is REALLY an indication of how eclectic Mos Def's career will be after that. Just saying.

that's great unless you run out of things to say. See: Lil Wayne in the last 5 years.

my guess is he has been really liking all the beats coming his way and so puts together some quick shit to rap on them for the fun of it

noisereductions 09.16.2016 10:37 PM

I def feel like the stuff he's dropped this year so far is just major label mixtapes, sure. But the line is thin on what's a mixtape and what's an album now anyway.

Streets Of Compton is dope though. I like its looseness.

Didn't anyone hear "Sauce"? I guess that's just a throwaway single, but its' good.

I have high hopes for 1992.

SuchFriendsAreDangerous 09.16.2016 10:50 PM

i don't think mix tapes are bad. really these game things are more like records than mix tapes because traditionally mix tapes were for dropping b-sides and loose takes, somgs that aren't necessarily connected the way a true album usually is. more specifically mix tapes are record company jargon about when each track has a different producer for production credits

SuchFriendsAreDangerous 09.16.2016 10:53 PM

ok i see what Game did. streets of Compton is a "soundtrack" album in tandem with an A&E documentary miniseries about LA gangs. Block Wars of course is connected with the video game. what i think Game is doing is connecting what is generally his mix tape production for these promotional things to double up. Game always had a lot of mix tapes, this isn't new.

New Kool Keith is out. To no fanfare or buzz from any of the big media sites. No surprise there.

Haven't heard it yet, but I will today.

Kool Keith - Feature Magnetic ... Look for it.

The word "Mixtape" has more or less lost all meaning.

Have you heard Everybody Looking? The new fresh-out-da-Feds Gucci album? It plays like a high-end mixtape. There are producer shoutouts "MOIK WILL MADE IT") and different producers on just about every track. But it's for sale and even has a physical copy that made its way to stores super fast.

I have to say, I hate those shout-outs. HATE them. They're almost as bad as DJ shout outs from when radio jocks were making these things. Both of them are irritating and unnecessary and undermine the artistic quality of the music. They're Fucking commercials. Ugh.

Anyway...

noisereductions 09.17.2016 05:03 PM

Yeah heard the Gucci once. That was enough for me.

I like it. In a "for what it is" kind of way. Is it all time peak Gucci? Hay-ell naw. But it's strong, and just a little weird. I'll bet he put less work into it than Wiz did for Khalifa, or Snoop did for Coolaid. Yet it sounds like the absolute cutting edge of rap compared to those flaccid records.

Shrug. I'm enjoying it. And "Pussy Print" just gets stuck in my head like crazy.

Severian 09.17.2016 05:38 PM

HEY, ALL Y'ALL... I'm talking to everyone, here.

GO LISTEN TO DE LA SOUL AND THE ANONYMOUS NOBODY
GO LISTEN TO KOOL KEITH'S FEATURE MAGNETIC
IF YOU HAVEN'T LISTENED TO THE SUN'S TIRADE, do that shit too.

louder 09.17.2016 06:00 PM

Mac Miller's new one is refreshing.
