Thanks for the info, at that price I'll try to be there.

It's kind of funny to see Sonic Youth headline a world music festival.

Great show tonight ! I've found them far better in live than on MySpace, I mean it's definitely a live band for a non SY connoisseur pov.

Great festival, it's the only 2 days where the city is kind of "alive".

By the way, sorry to the fat b**** that I threatened with death. That was irony...

alphi 08.10.2008 03:36 AM

I was at the show yesterday.

The Burning Spear was really great, the band enjoyed themself. But after that I though the daydream nation stuffs wen boring ! :(
The sound was terrible for a SY show (actually the sound was not 'bad' but 'common' for a rock gig, but the 4 previous SY shows that I went before had a really really great sound) so I didn't really get into the performance.

It was also a bit sad to see them playing the same stuffs as at the Méditéranéennes, while I was hopping for something 'special' tonight.

The Rather Ripped songs and the encore where more enjoyable, but the sound was still terrible.

I think actually it was a bad choice for the band to play the daydream nation stuffs (they played 6 songs from it, almost the half of the show), because it seemed automatic for them. But I don't blame them for this. The problem was the sound quality (and Thurston also complained about the lighting). The festival being a world music festival, I think they wouldn't make it right anyway. I really think actually Christophe Wavelet from the Life is an hardcore fan and wanted them to play, which was a good idea.

There is an article today in Presse Océan (newspaper) by the way.

The Daydream Nation stuff did not bore me at all (but I was my first SY show so I didn't care about the bad sound, I still thought they ripped).

They played a lot of my favourites so I was very happy with the setlist (The sprawl, 'Cross the breeze, Hey Joni, The wonder, Hyperstation, Schizophrenia, Pink steam off course...). The show was just too short but it was clearly imposed on them.

I'll agree with mXe in the sense that SY really take another dimension live (or at least they did for me yesterday). Hats off to Steve by the way, I knew he was great but he even improved on the songs comared to studio I thought.

By the way weirdly I could not find any SY merchandising yesterday, did I not search for it enough ? I had brought the money to buy a T-shirt, never mind...

alphi 08.10.2008 09:02 AM

There were no merchandising except SYR 6 and SYR 8 ! lol
They were cheap (11.50€), but I didn't have no money at all !

I can understand you enjoyed the show as the performance was good actually. But the bad sound and the fact of having already see the band last years 2 times playing the same DDN stuffs didn't really exited me. On the other hand I didn't attend any DDN show so I never got the chance to see live songs like Silver Rocket or Kissability. It was a kind of 'best-of' show. Most people from there must haven't see the band before, so I undersand the choice. I can still dream they will make very soon (before I leave) a special performance at the exhibition! lol

Here is the presse océan article

they don't seem to have any merch when they play festivals. I was hoping they will have some after Original Silence gig, but there was none either.

thanks for pics!
did you people (I mean from here) meet up by any chance?

Flow my Tears 08.10.2008 10:48 AM

Longtime i did not come on this forum...
Agree with Alphi about the kind of "Best-of" show, nice set-list with all their hits, even if 6 DDN songs was maybe a bit too much, but they played a really nice "The Wonder" & "HyperStation", so it's ok :) .
The sad thing is they did only 1 encore (Shaking Hell). Was too short...
And of course, thanks alphi for the article and the pics !!!
